I think everything everyone is saying is good. I wish I could find the verse right now but I can't find it. There is a verse in Psalms though that says something to the effect of: "If I did not have hope that I would be delivered in this life everything is in vain."
So I think it is good to pray for the strength to remain faithful in times of sickness and chronic pain. But I also believe that we need to have a compltely biblical view of healing, not a view that is tainted by the barreness and faithlessness of the world around us.
The bible says that "He took up our infirmities and carried our diseases" Matt 8:17
And "Praise the Lord oh my soul and forget not His benifits who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases." Psalm 103:3
"And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven. 16Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective." James 5:15
I'm not claiming that if you don't believe me that you must not understand the Bible, but where I'm at right now it seems like it is God's will for people to be healed. It also seems like a very wholesom and biblical thing to long for healing in this life, and not only in the life to come.
Job was the first book written in the Bible, so obviously the authors of all the other books of the Bible knew that God let suffering into the lives of His people for different reasons, that may be beyond the comprehension of everyone, and yet they wrote so many things about God being our healer.
When you suffer, suffer for Christ! But don't forget that you are a Christian and your healing is part of your inheritance!

Someone dealing with a health problem might also find this thread helpful. I also get so tired of hearing the HEALTH and WEALTH preaching. Some of us, like myself, have chronic illnesses or conditions and have heard "Have enough faith and you will be healed" too many times.

Illness happens to all. Death happens to all. Suffering happens to all. Since when is this evidence of a lack of faith?

Sometimes we go through suffering. God can use that suffering or we can let Satan continue to. Illness is not a sign of a lack of faith and any clergy or other christians that would tell you that are dead wrong. God does not make people sick nor make them worse to punish them. There's only one word for that line of logic but I can't write it in here.

Hi there, everyone, original postee over here!!!
Im sorry shaun if this is a depressing thread, my original post was to highlight the problem caused by some christians who teach universal healing. If i believed in quick universal healing i would have lost my faith by now. Ive begged god continously for a year to health me from a serious pain. Im currently getting it checked out for cancer but at the tender age of 21 this is all a bit much. Of course im depressed about it but i still try to appear happy most of the time. I find people who always moan about their problems very annoying so i dont do that. At the same time i have been promised by a preacher, in a vision that god wants to take the pain off me and carry it himself so that i may walk free from it. All i can say is that this will kill me if it carries on much longer, it has had a devastating effect on my health already. I can hardly walk up a flight of stairs without gasping and im not exaggerating, the 30 pounds ive lost off a average weight frame now makes me look anorexic. So of course im worried and frustrated and a host of other things.

Im trusting god to heal me but im preparing for the worst.
I do not in any measure feel sorry for myself, im to blame.

But I want to encourage other people out there with serious ailments not to lose their faith and not to blame God for their suffering.

A big thank you to everyone who has posted here and many thanks to those who have blessed me. Hope you are all in good health and strengthening your faith.

Some very simple questions Troy.
Read these verses:

1Pe 2:24
24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.

Mat 8:17
17 in order that the [word] having been spoken through Isaiah the prophet should be fulfilled, saying, "He Himself took our sicknesses, and He bore our diseases."

Then answer These Questions:
Has Jesus already bore your sins on the tree? (y/n)
Has Jesus already took you sickness and bore disease? (y/n)
By His stripes were you healed? (y/n)
Why do you suppose all the verbs in these verses are past tense?
What do you think there is left to do for your healing to take effect?
Do you think God is in Heaven deciding if you are gonig to be healed or not?

This is just healing at a very base level.

Bottom line... God wants you well: now, today.

You are very strong and have great faith. It's a big test to continue your faith when things are going bad. Its very important to have God as number 1 during all aspects of life. God Bless, and thank you for starting this thread. Jen

Troy, my thoughts and prayers are with you. Here are a couple of Orthodox prayers that might help:

O, Lord, Jesus Christ our God, You healed the diseases and infirmities of men by Your word alone during the days of Your visitation in this world. Look upon me now, and if it is Your holy will for my salvation, heal the sickness with which I am afflicted. Raise me up from this bed of pain and weakness, that I may serve You all the days of my life, striving in every way to accomplish Your holy will. Let me use this sickness as the time for adoring Your love for man, and as the occasion of my renewal in following You with firm resolve and unshakeable courage. Let me remember that I am only dust, and that if I live at all, it is only by Your power and grace, for You created me and gave me the hope of salvation and eternal life. To You, Lord Jesus, I make my prayer, and trusting in Your mercy and love, I offer all worship and adoration to You, to God the Father, and to the Most Holy Spirit, now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen Here is another prayer for times of pain:

O Heavenly Father, Creator and Provider of all blessings, forgive me my sins as I lie in sickness and pain. Grant that this suffering in the flesh may avail for the salvation of my soul. I come before You at this present time, the hour of my trial, when the burden of sickness is heavy upon me and the pain of suffering seems more than I can bear. I beg You to give me patience and strength. Let me trust in You, and trust that what is happening to me now is for my salvation. Let me trust that You will not abandon me, but will bless me to transform my suffering into a firm witness to Your grace and power, and into my way of attaining eternal life. For You are the God of mercies and bounties, full of love for mankind, and I glorify You, O Father, with Your Son Jesus Christ, and Your Most Holy Spirit, now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen. Again, you are in my thoughts and prayers. At the next service, I will light a candle for you.

In 1 Peter God is talking about "living unto righteousnes", the healing is a spiritual healing of the heart.

Our physical healing has nothing to do with "living unto righteousness"

"we, being dead to sins" - those who are dead to sin are healed by his stripes, that's why it is past tense.

The church MUST look deeper into the true meaning of these words.

All of Jesus' miracles, while here on this earth, was a physical example of our spiritual walk, feeding the poor, healing the sick,...this is our example, it's Jesus Christ that feeds us the bread of life that saves our soul and it's Jesus Christ that heals our infirmities, a deseased heart that saves us from destruction.

i pray that all in the church look into this and seek truth diligently, you must work out your own salvation with fear, trust not man, but Jesus Christ for truth,

speaking truth by the Holy Spirit,

Thanks pal, I know God wants me well, but remember the even Christ had to go through intense suffering to be made perfect. I will never be anywhere near perfect but I have become a better person, and a christian for that matter because of suffering. Jesus is drawn to those who are suffering and visa versa. God is much more concerned about our spiritual health than our physical health, and now i am too! No matter how bad it is I know my illness is achieving my salvation, I hope!!!:prayer:

Thanks for the support eveyone!!

But I aint brave at all, If I didnt believe in christ id be a suicidal wreck, no jokes.

My life is in his hands so whatever happens happens and I cant do anything about it.

Anyway I know of people who have suffered more than me and have got almost no support so i count myself lucky to have family and friends around me.

Here's an interesting question though?

God knows everything right?, the past, the future, the present etc...

So then why would he create us knowing full well that we would turn away from him and cause misery, destruction and suffering for ourselves.

He must have taken a great risk creating us because loving us means he is vulnerable.

Imagine what it must be like for God to look at all the sinning unbelievers who die everyday apart from christ. He knows the awfull fate awaiting them and he loves them dearly. Why would he do this?

Boggles the mind doesn't it?

And think about this, I know that If I was to be healed, both God and I would be taking a huge risk that I might stray into sin again and reject God AGAIN!!. He know's how easily influenced I am so by healing me, he would be taking a risk that I might chose to reject him. Maybe thats why he doesnt heal everyone, to make sure they arn't lost.

If you die in christ, you live forever. But as long as youre on this earth, you will be subject to temptation and possible judgement. The tempter will be hot on our heels with christians being a prime target for satan.
