"sons of God"

Genesis 6:2-4 (J)
Psalms 82:6, 88:7
Job 1:6, 2:1, 38:7
Wisdom 5:5

According to the Documentary Hypothesis, Genesis 6 is part of the "J" source composed into its present form under David & Solomon (R.E.Friedman, Who Wrote the Bible?)

So all of the references plausibly derive from Davidic & Solomonic "Wisdom" writings (Job is considered Wisdom writing, describing the "way of Wisdom")

In all cases, "sons of God" refers to divine beings, part of God's Divine Council (M. Heiser)

Prima facie, reference to divine-human couplings producing men of renown resembles the story of Alexander the Great, whose mother claimed Zeus came to her in her pregnancy

the fallen "sons of God" were the Watchers, who imparted esoteric occult knowledge to (some) people (M. Heiser, Reversing Hermon)

fallen beings elevating chosen contactees with occult "knowledge" echoes the nachash serpent in Eden advocating the "knowledge" of good & evil to Eve & Adam

also resembles the Greek myth of Prometheus, who gave humanity knowledge of "fire" & technology and was punished by higher beings for so doing (Prometheus ~ nachash ?)

so, there exists a tradition of fallen spirit beings imparting contactees with occult knowledge, from the first use of stone tools & fire in deep prehistory, Eden, pre-Flood, post-Flood

One way to look at Genesis 6 is that the line of Seth intermarried with the line of Cain.

Yes, in light of the Genesis 4:26.

It appears that between this time and Enoch's, the world then was degenerated to such an extent that God only found Noah, out of the rest of his close relatives (if he had any), to be blameless and righteous in his generation. In other words, the sons of God turned aside except one, and that one found favor in God's eyes, our ancestor Noah.

It is absurd to think heavenly beings married and slept with human women, but the Alexandrian Septuagint has me rethinking that position. Then again, I don't trust the Septuagint (or any version we still have today) over the Masoretic. As Jesus said, angels don't marry, that is a human institution in this passing life to illustrate the relationship Christ has with his people.

astute observation!

and yet, non-fallen angels who keep their heavenly station don't marry

non-fallen angels don't lie or deceive, either

Are the mothers (or women that slept with angels) doomed to hell or can they go to heaven?

Nobody "slept with angels" in the Bible. That is pure fiction. The Bible does not say "humans slept with angels" or "angels slept with humans" or "demons slept with humans"

In Matthew 22 Christ specifically says Angels have no family relationships even with each other -- much less "with other species".

The humans living before the flood - lived to long ages (super human ages) by today's standards (about 10 times ours) and they were also much taller than we are about double. Many have concluded that they had such physical characteristics because they were so much closer to the line of humans that ate from the Tree of Life. you can see the life spans decrease after the flood - gradually. And it is not until you get to Abraham in Genesis 14 that you see the first gap between the tall and shorter people.

That means Noah was in fact "Nephilim" and that is why you see Nephilim after the flood - not just before the flood.

The Old Testament frequently depicts Angels incarnated into a physical corporeal human form. From JUDGMENT OF THE NEPHILIM by Pitterson.

The angels didn’t rape women, they married them, so these were not demons or fallen angels.

Just as Jesus, the Son of God, was born as a human, an angel could also be born and live as a human. Considering the clean and peaceful condition of the Earth at that time it is not surprising that some angels decided to be born and live as humans.

We are told that humans live a maximum of 120 years which is as true today as it was then. The text then mentions giants, which would be the angels, or spiritual "giants" who lived longer lives because of their righteousness. The spiritual giants were men like Noah who were angels who came to the Earth were born as human babies and lived as humans. They were very righteous, and lived centuries, but they were not perfect and they did ultimately die and go to await the judgement.
