1 Samuel 28:14-16 (New International Version)
14 "What does he look like?" he asked.
"An old man wearing a robe is coming up," she said.
Then Saul knew it was Samuel, and he bowed down and prostrated himself with his face to the ground.

15 Samuel said to Saul, "Why have you disturbed me by bringing me up?"

Okay !! If samuel was disturbed , was he sleeping? Do we sleep after death waiting to be resurected or there is more?

Anyone....?

i'll answer the question: what happens after we die?

Heb 9:27 And inasmuch as it is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment

THE DOCTRINE OF ETERNITY: Heaven & Hell

THE PLACE OF THE DEAD BEFORE THE CROSS

1. Before Jesus' death and resurrection, the righteous and the wicked dead went to a place called Sheol, which had 2 compartments that were separated by an impassable gulf or valley.
a. Lk. 16:20-31 One section was for the righteous dead (referred to as Abraham's bosom and paradise, Lk. 23:43 and one section was for the wicked (often referred to as hell).
b. Gen. 37:35 The grave: This was also called; Sheol, or Hades. It was the world of the dead and literally means: a subterranean (underground) retreat that includes accessories and inmates.
c. Deut. 32:22 "Down to the lowest part of hell"(or Sheol)
d. Num. 16:33 "Into the pit"(or Sheol)
e. Jn. 3:3 "No man has ascended up into the heaven, escept He who came down to heaven." Before the resurrection of Christ, the righteous dead went down to paradise, not up to heaven.
f. Lk. 23:43 Jesus said to the dying theif on the cross, "Today, you shall be with me in paradise." (That was not heaven. Jesus ascended to heaven on the third day, not the first day in the grave)
g. 1 Sam. 38:7, 11, 15 King Saul called Samuel up from the place of the dead.

2. The work of Christ in Sheol:
a. Eph. 4:9 Jesus descended into sheol
b. Matt. 12:40 Jesus spent three days and three nights in the belly of the earth
c. 1 Pet. 3:18-20 Christ went to sheol and preached to those who were sometimes disobedient in Noah's time. Many probably repented when the water was rising high, but it was too late for them to enter the ark. They were accepted for eternal salvation although they did not qualify to enter into the new dispensation after the flood.
d. Eph. 4:8-9 Christ "led captivity captive"
e. Ps. 68:18 When Christ ascended from Sheol, all the righteous dead went along with Him as he opened the way to heaven.
*Mt. 27:51-53

3. Heaven needed to be cleansed 2 Chr. 18:20-21
Job 15:15 Sin had its origin in heaven with Lucifer's rebellion
Heb 9:23-24 Heaven needed to be purged with the blood of the Christ.

4. paradise was transferred after the resurrection.
After the resurrection, the dwelling place of the righteous was transferred to heaven. The saints who have died after the resurrection immediately go to be with the Lord Jesus in HEAVEN.
a. Phil 1:23
b. 2 Cor. 5:8
c. 1 Thess. 5:9-11

5. Purgatory is not taught in the Bible.
Purgatory is a false doctrine of the Roman Catholic church based on a verse from one of the books of the Apocrypha. The Apocrypha are ancient books written by Jews, but were never accepted as the inspired word of God.

Thanks, If this is so then , does it mean that on Judgement day we will come down from heaven or rise from earth ? Also is Judgement as soon as we die?:liturgy:

Revelation 20:3 And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season.

Revelation 20:7 And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison,Revelation 20:8 And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog, and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea.Revelation 20:9 And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them.Revelation 20:10 And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.
Revelation 20:14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
Revelation 20:15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

Scary stuff....

If you believe in Jesus you will not be judged..and now this is the dilema facing most of Christendom. Some say to believe in the name is sufficient and Gods Grace does the rest. But it is quite evident a different story appears from Jesus own words. Jesus told us that there will be ministers of God who will not enter heaven though they preached and did miracles but our Messiah Jesus tells us that the people who fed and clothed the sick and hungry in the name of Jesus will pass judgement. This proves that the great myth of just believing in his name is false and only God knows where that came from for it is written even the demons believe in the name of Jesus.

There is the great white throne judgement at the end of Revelation, that God looks in the book for our name. But, Paul states as believers, we stand before the judgement seat of Christ.

Romans 14:10 But why dost thou judge thy brother? or why dost thou set at nought thy brother? for we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.Romans 14:11 For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.Romans 14:12 So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.

I would dare say, all at the end, when all are judged.

As Jesus said to our Father on the cross '' I commit my spirit to you'' Jesus trusted that His spirit would go to God. When we die the true followers of Jesus Yeshua our spirits have passed judgement and go to God in heaven. We sleep and await the end of the world. The non believers meaning people who do not follow the lifestyle of Jesus will also have their spirits go back to God but God places their spirits in a seperate place. To sleep in heaven is exactly I believe as when you are operated on. Time flies by and when you wake suddenly you cannot believe the operation even took place.

2 Corinthians 5:8 We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.

As far as Samuel being down, in the Old Testament, there was Paradise, where those that relied on the promise of the Messiah went when they died. Yeshua spoke of it in Luke

Luke 23:43 And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.

Heaven wasn't "opened" until the resurrection of Christ. It is also spoke of in the story of Lazarus and the rich man, calling it Abrahams bosom

Luke 16:22 And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;

Death is the end of life in the body form, the spiritual self is in the grave dead in the earth until the 2nd coming of Christ in which the sleeping will awaken and join him in the new city.
Death until judgement is sleeping, if you are judged and have been a naughty boy then death becomes permanent without God.

The spirits of Believers who die go to be with Christ and stay with him until the Rapture. At the Rapture, all the "dead in Christ" are resurrected to their new bodies. Then all believers who are still living will be transformed in the blink of an eye to their new perfected forms.

The story of Lazarus and the rich man is told to demonstrate that there are two compartments where those who die go. The believers to one of peace and contentment, the others to a place of torment, as the rich man discovered.

The fact that they could converse with each other across the great gulf between them shows they were conscious and aware, and could communicate.

When Christ was resurrected He took all the believers with him to heaven, leaving the unbelievers in their compartment of torment. At Christ's second coming to earth those in the place of torment will be resurrected to their final judgement and consignment to the lake of fire.

I don't have any scriptures to back me up, but this is how I think:
Many years ago I was in a very bad car accident. I was in serious condition, and my husband didn't make it. The third day of being in the hospital I was in a trance. I couldn't move. I could barely even talk. I didn't even feel like I was a part of my body. Sort of like floating above it. During this couple hour stetch I saw my husband. He was with a bunch of people that I didn't know, and my brother who had passed away just fourteen months prior. He also had this white cat with him. It was very bright, and it looked to me that people were preparing him for something. After a couple hours there appeared a very bright light. Every one started turning and walking to the light. My husband appeared very confused, he reached out his hands to me, but they wouldn't let me go. He walked into the light with everyone else, and I finally woke up.
He's not asleep, he's in Heaven, and he's waiting on me to one day join him.

I dont think you will find scripture to back it up, as this dosn't happen in my opinion until the rapture:

Ep5 14Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.

Awake the sleeping and rise from the dead, here would suggest dead and sleeping are the same thing

and here again in John 11:11

These things said he: and after that he saith unto them, "Our friend Lazarus sleepeth; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep

There are lots of other places in the bible that state that the body in death is the body sleeping, a sleeping body is waiting to be awakened by the light of the morning.
The body in death is awaiting 'The Light of god (jesus)' to be awakened.

So Death is the body sleeping until Jesus returns to awaken the dead, those that believe in him will be saved those that dont will return to the dead or sleeping without an end.
The punishment given to adam was death
The punishment given to Man was death
The punishment given to mankind was death

The only way to be saved is through jesus christ the giver of light simple..
