1 Samuel 28:14-16 (New International Version)
14 "What does he look like?" he asked.
"An old man wearing a robe is coming up," she said.
Then Saul knew it was Samuel, and he bowed down and prostrated himself with his face to the ground.

15 Samuel said to Saul, "Why have you disturbed me by bringing me up?"

Okay !! If samuel was disturbed , was he sleeping? Do we sleep after death waiting to be resurected or there is more?

Anyone....?

Why hast thou disquieted me; from my rest in the world of spirits; that is, Why hast thou been the occasion of it?

Before the death of Christ, the dead went to "sheol", referring to the abodes of the dead, or the place in which departed spirits are supposed to dwell. The Jews also called it 'Abraham's Bosom' Both Lazarus (righteous) and the rich man (wicked) abode there according to Jesus' parable.

The one with whom the witch of Endor and Saul communicated with was not Samuel, but was, in fact, an evil spirit. A "familiar" spirit as the KJV refers such spirits as because they imitate a person who has died, deceiving those who would disobey God by consulting "the dead" - having recollection of events that have happened in the person's past and even
mimicking their voices.
