  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I remember Nirvana being a hit back in middle school, and to say the least, they were great in my opinion. Too bad grunge rock died with Cobain...

No, I'm sorry but the real spirit of "grunge" rock died with the breakup of Soundgarden.

Nirvana exploded on the scene with "Smells Like Teen Spirit", and to this day Nirvana has influenced music.
That one song is one of, if not, thee biggest smash hit that forever changed rock music.

For decades, pop songs of various styles ruled the airwaves. But that one song, some how, touched this generation like no other song has.
It wasn't the lyrics, but the buzz that song gave off, just electrified the radio waves.

In school, out of school, in every party, that album was being played over and over.
That album, Pearl Jams "Ten", Sound Gardens "Bad Motor Finger", and Red Hot Chili Peppers "Blood Sugar Sex Magic" ruled the music scene for years to come.

And it all started with the the explosion of that one song. Which became VH1's biggest hit of all time, on thier top 100 list.

I remember the first time I heard it.
It was on MTV 7 in the morning, killing some time before school.
I instantly loved it, such a fresh sound that captivated me big time.

Another great band! I'd have to say that Under the Bridge was and still is one of my favorite songs, that and Give it Away and Zephyr Song.

I'm a huge Nirvana fan, so much so that my daughter got infected by my enthusiasm and her room is now the biggest shrine to Kurt Cobain I have ever seen. :)

I'm was listening to Nirvana when I spotted this thread. Nirvana rocks.

I find Nirvana realy good. They are or i should say were the creaters of Grunge. They start in seattle, washington. So i heard a lot of weird stories after Cobain Killed him self. I live in Tacoma which isn't far from seattle. They had a huge memorial in seattle that my mom went to she used to love them. But any ways I like foo fighters too. but that kind of music is starting to become a past to me i have start to listening to more christian rock bands and encourage anyone who wants to know more about Jesus to go to the event called "Acquire The Fire".

Nirvana has little to do with grunge. They are called "grunge" out of sheer laziness by the music industry, being from Seattle and having a certain hairstyle. Nirvana draws upon college rock traditions like the Pixies and the Vaselines and just adds a certain raw feel and vocal style that people associate with grunge.

Grunge is much more like 70's metal... Soundgarden doesn't sound like Nirvana... neither does Pearl Jam.. except the vocals (kiiiind of).

As for "they started grunge", thats just not true. try Mudhoney and early Soundgarden.

Krist Novoselic(bassist) played in Sweet 75 and Eyes Adrift after Nirvana, but is now more into politics than music. I like Nirvana, but bands like Pearl Jam(their more recent stuff is VERY underrated. Checkout the album "Yield") and Alice In Chains are a lot better IMO.
