The expressions “bind” and “loose” were common to Jewish legal phraseology meaning to declare something forbidden or to declare it allowed.

If we withhold the Word of God....we bind on earth and if we give the Word of God we loose on earth.

NO man or individual church has the keys to the exclusion of all other believers my friend. We have the responsibility today to give out the Word of God because it is the only thing that can save the lost sinner from hell.

Romans 10:17.....
"Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God".

This "binding" of the Word suggests then that there are times to withhold the scriptures. At what time did Jesus ever ask anyone to ever withhold the Word? Rather, it seems to me, that Jesus wanted his message spread to every creature everywhere.

...That's what other scriptures say, so then one of the two must be false.

Note... The keys are the promises of God... That unlock all doors in any doubting castle!

Wisdom indeed... Faith in the promises of Christ has pulled me out of despair many times over. Love that story though.

NO it does not suggest that at all. The only one suggesting that my friend is you.

Now in reality, I think you know the answer to that question my friend.

It seems to me that you are just proposing questions to cause an argument where there is none.

10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in Me? What I am telling you I do not say on My own authority and of My own accord; but the Father Who lives continually in Me does the (a]">[a]His) works (His own miracles, deeds of power).

I'm curious what non-Catholics believe on this.
It is clear from Scripture that Peter received the *keys* to the Kingdom of Heaven, which implies that a door had to be unlocked. Those keys were the Gospel message itself, and Christ Himself was the Door, since He said "I AM THE DOOR". Peter was the apostle who first preached to the Jews in Jerusalem on the Day of Pentecost and 3,000 were saved. He also preached to the Gentiles in the house of Cornelius, and all were saved. Thus many entered into the Kingdom of Heaven by grace through faith.

As to *binding and loosing*, this was apostolic authority given to all the apostles to either pronounce judgment on sinning Christians, or to pronounce forgiveness after repentance. This authority now resides in each church which exercises discipline over its members.

Interesting so far. The Presbyterian says, the keys came and left with the Apostles, the Anglican says the interpretation is flawed, the Pentecostal says the keys are Jesus' name itself and the Catholic says it's Canon Law. Lol.

The Keys are the authority which Jesus gave to the Apostles to bind and loose, to forgive, etc. There successors still have that authority to this day

In all honesty, I'm going to have to say that this is the best answer I've heard yet. Nice post.
