  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What does "seek my face" mean to you?

I noticed tonight that this expression is not used in the New Testament.
The reason I am asking though, is inspired by this verse.

2 Corinthians 4:6 For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness,
who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God
in the face of Jesus Christ.

This informs me that to seek the Lord's face is "to seek the light of the knowledge
of the glory of God".
What also catches my attention is that he does not simply say "the light of the glory",
but "the light of the knowledge(gnosis) of the glory", which informs us that there is
knowledge to be found in the light of His glory.
I will also point out that this is a heart desire.

Psalms 27:8 When You said, “Seek My face,”
My heart said to You, “Your face, Lord, I will seek.”

Finally, one other teaching of Paul that speaks to our "seeking". Romans 2:1-11
5
But in accordance with your hardness and your impenitent heart you are treasuring
up for yourself wrath in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God,
6 who “will render to each one according to his deeds”:
7 eternal life to those who by patient continuance in doing good seek for glory,
honor, and immortality...
10
but glory, honor, and peace to everyone who works what is good, to the Jew
first and also to the Greek.
11 For there is no partiality with God.

Does it mean you should seek the truth?
The Lord refers to the Holy Spirit whom He sends to us as "the Spirit of truth", and
we are
to abide in that spirit. This enables us to "receive from above". To ask and receive.
The epistle of James provides us with much insight into that seeking.
James 1:
5
If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without
reproach, and it will be given to him.
17
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father
of lights, (the God of glory) with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.
18 Of His own will He brought us forth by the word of truth, that we might be a kind
of firstfruits of His creatures.

Thanks for responding, and taking the discussion in a positive and edifying direction.
I look forward to more feedback in response.
I hope this was helpful.
Here is a wonderful truth.

Romans 8:16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God.

it means to clothe yourself in His identity ........

And they will see His face, and His name will be on their foreheads.
I pray for Revelation 22:4 often. The verse preceding speaks a lot about that seeking.
3 And there shall be no more curse, but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it,
and His servants shall serve Him.
Here is one for you to sleep on.
Psalms 17:15 As for me, I will see Your face in righteousness;
I shall be satisfied when I awake in Your likeness.

Like you would look into the face and eyes of Jesus Christ and want to know him and his wise teachings is to "seek his face."
Nice thoughts. Thanks for sharing.
John 3:27 John answered and said, “A man can receive nothing unless it has been
given to him from heaven.

What does "seek my face" mean to you?
I noticed tonight that this expression is not used in the New Testament.
He means to be like He is, behind His face, so we are not only looking at Jesus but inside ourselves we are being like Him so we can appreciate how He really is. And this is found in the New Testament >

"we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is" > in 1 John 3:2.

Maybe this gives new meaning to "It takes one to know one."

So, how is this done? By God, of course, in us. 2 Corinthians 3:18 says >

"But we all, as with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into that same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord." (in 2 Corinthians 3:17)

So, God is doing this in us who are His children.

And every New Testament scripture is connected with this, somehow, having this meaning and purpose. Every scripture has this practical meaning, somehow, how God wants us to become like Jesus so we are pleasing to Him like Jesus is.

Awesome! This is the kind of response I have come to expect from you.
This is the scripture that came to mind after reading your comments:

Philippians 3:
10
that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship
of His sufferings, being conformed to His death,
11 if, by any means, I may attain to the resurrection from the dead.

Yes, we have heard the expression "to know him is to love him"? :)
Ephesians 3:19 To know the love of Christ which passes knowledge;
that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

I was so glad that you wrote this:
And every New Testament scripture is connected with this, somehow, having this meaning and purpose.
Strengthening our relationship with the Lord with each new experience and manifestation
of His presence becomes the meaning of life for us. The Holy Spirit told me that the degree
with which we draw near to Him in our life defines our place in eternity. This is why He said,

Luke 14:
10
But when you are invited, go and sit down in the lowest place, so that when he who
invited you comes he may say to you, ‘Friend, go up higher.’ Then you will have glory
in the presence of those who sit at the table with you.

11 For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.

Thank you for the fellowship in the joy unspeakable!

So, God is doing this in us who are His children.
Your response was so powerful, I am going to further tip my hand towards where
I am heading with this thread:

Exodus 33:11 So the Lord spoke to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend.

1 Corinthians 13:12 For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face.
Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known.

It means just that, Seek his face... also I will add don't make or worship a graven image painting of Jesus, nobody knows what Jesus really looked like.
1 John 3:
2
Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be,
but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.
3 And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.

I do have pictures of Jesus here in my home and all the pics of him have similarities. I do believe that people can have visions of Jesus. I have had visions of him in bed at night comforting me. Remember that he is alive! He is alive in the spirit. I like looking at those pics because then I can think if Jesus. I don't worship those pictures though. I follow Essene teachings and am not a bible-believing Christian anymore, but this forum doesn't say that people need to be bible-believers. There are other types of Christians in the world besides bible-believing ones. The Essenes teach that one can find the truth wherever they can. The Essenes draw truths from all faiths, but they do believe that Jesus is the Messiah and I do too. Jesus was an Essene and it says so in the bible. Also the Essenes say that Jesus was a vegetarian and I believe that was true also. The Essenes say that eating dead animals lowers the vibration in the body and I believe that be true too. Seeking and wanting to know the truth in all things is very important. If Jesus were walking the earth today, I would travel as far as I needed to to just sit at his feet and learn from him. He knew the truth about everything and he also had supernatural powers. He could disappear from the people who wanted to do him harm. He could be around people who were sick, such as, lepers and heal them, and he never got sick himself. He had a supernatural aura around him that kept him safe.

In the old testament the word for the presence of God came from an old word that meant face, probably related to that.

In some of the contexts, the root word (translated as God's presence in English) is related more to an eye than the face, but in most contexts it is the face.

Seeking the face of God means to seek to be in His presence, where you "have His attention"

This form of presence is an important distinction since God is technically everywhere.

Could be related to this statement?
Luke 11:34 The light of the body is the eye: therefore when thine eye is single,
thy whole body also is full of light; but when thine eye is evil,
thy body also is full of darkness.
