  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What does "seek my face" mean to you?

I noticed tonight that this expression is not used in the New Testament.
The reason I am asking though, is inspired by this verse.

2 Corinthians 4:6 For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness,
who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God
in the face of Jesus Christ.

This informs me that to seek the Lord's face is "to seek the light of the knowledge
of the glory of God".
What also catches my attention is that he does not simply say "the light of the glory",
but "the light of the knowledge(gnosis) of the glory", which informs us that there is
knowledge to be found in the light of His glory.
I will also point out that this is a heart desire.

Psalms 27:8 When You said, “Seek My face,”
My heart said to You, “Your face, Lord, I will seek.”

Finally, one other teaching of Paul that speaks to our "seeking". Romans 2:1-11
5
But in accordance with your hardness and your impenitent heart you are treasuring
up for yourself wrath in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God,
6 who “will render to each one according to his deeds”:
7 eternal life to those who by patient continuance in doing good seek for glory,
honor, and immortality...
10
but glory, honor, and peace to everyone who works what is good, to the Jew
first and also to the Greek.
11 For there is no partiality with God.
Seeking the face of the Lord means seeking the truth, pray for Divine Wisdom to come to you, love good and hate sin, study the bible and understand the bible. Love the LORD and love others.
If you can attain all this, then God will reveal himself to you and you will see his face just like Jacob did
Jesus Christ said "I am the way, the truth and the light."( John 14:6)
May God Bless You

Could be related to this statement?
Luke 11:34 The light of the body is the eye: therefore when thine eye is single,
thy whole body also is full of light; but when thine eye is evil,
thy body also is full of darkness.
It can be, since the presence of God can fill us with light. However, Philippians chapter 4 comes to mind in regards to it in terms of instruction.

Focusing only on God to the point of not being able to appreciate what He has created can result in darkness.

We are sanctified by His Glory.
To be Full of Light to to be Fully Sanctified.
This is the "single eye".

Philippians 3:
20
For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior,
the Lord Jesus Christ,
21 who will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to His glorious body,
according to the working by which He is able even to subdue all things to Himself.

Seeking God's face means to seek to know God in truth and have a relationship with Him.

Seeking God's Hand means to seek His power - usually to benefit in some way from it.

It is contrary to how God hides His face. God is incompatible with sin. So sometimes He has to choose to hide His face from us sinners when we are sinning. The Jews think that God is so holy that men will die if we directly look at God's face. Seeking God's face could mean that we need to be holy as God is holy.

It simply means to seek to know the true God, as directly as possible in this life. This is what Jesus came to reveal.

I will be their God,
and they will be my people.
No longer will they teach their neighbor,
or say to one another, ‘Know the Lord,’
because they will all know me,
from the least of them to the greatest,”
declares the Lord.”
Jer 31:33-34

“Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father.” John 14:9

Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.” John 17:3

For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.” 1 Cor 13:12

We must want it, and yet the receiving is a gift, pure grace.
