Hello guys! Just a quick question, what does "Keep your mind on Jesus always" mean? Because its impossible to keep your mind on Jesus every second of the day. I'm asking where is the line drawn between, doing a hobby, and keeping your mind on Jesus? Because you can take almost any hobby that is not religion related, and you don't focus on Him or God at all. Say when going to soccer practice, or doing art, or playing video games. How could one tell if it is interfering with their spirutal growth, or if you are just doing some kind of activity not religion related? Just a quick question. Because whenever I am doing a hobby of mine (video games, mainly), I just feel guilty because I'm not thinking about Jesus every second of my life. (I'm almost positive some of it is OCD)

No, but it can be like a love relationship where you are often thinking of someone.

In those situations, you might be playing a game, or reading a book, or doing something else, but your heart is about the relationship.

We, as human beings, tend to regulate ourselves in our relationships with others. When things are going well there, we feel very good; when things are not, we do not feel good.

None of this is, however, anything for a new Christian to worry or think about. Instead, what should be close at hand everyday is the Gospels. Not what someone says about Jesus and God. But, what Jesus said.

God is very real. Despite many appearances to the contrary. God hides Himself.

Right now, you have heard others talk about God... maybe they really know God, maybe they are just wannabes. But, that is what is important. And the offer there is plain and simple: eternal life. No one else is offering that.

It is also a real thing you find here and now. Not, "I am about to die, am I going to continue on or not", nor wishful thinking people have. When you drink that wine, you know it.

God says to bring every thought to the obedience of Christ (2 Cor. 10:5), and that means to be in communion with Him on everything, as Midst said. We should make the Lord Jesus our best Friend, and walk and talk with Him for His care and His leading in all things. The Christian life is more than salvation by receiving the Lord Jesus, but honoring Him and trusting Him to be kept from going astray.

It can start with an effort to "pray without ceasing" -- talking to God about things you're doing, and listening to thoughts that come to your mind.

After being a Christian for years, I have a less conscious effort, and more of a sense that someone is beside me most of the time. So my thoughts are more like bouncing ideas off someone ... "What do you think of that?" "Should I approach that person and say something, or let it go?"

And then I get a sense of what I need to do. Sometimes an explanation, sometimes just clarity. Sometimes nothing, and that's fine.

Most people don't know how to start hearing from God, since it's an odd thing to trust that you hear from an invisible Being. But just relax and let things flow, ask Him for help, and ask Him to be more connected with you.

That, exactly.

Don't forget about giving Thanks. Being thankful helps you realize how much you have instead of focusing on what you don't have. Since most of us negative talk to ourselves this is gratifying to us as well as to God. The Word tells us "in everything give thanks".

The other thing is Praise and Worship. I love singing christian songs of praise to God for what He has done for me. Worship can be singing and telling God how much you love Him.

These two things are very edifying for you.

Dear Foofy. A good way is following Jesus`s Commandments to us. "The first and great Commandment is: Love God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. The second is like it: Love your neighbour as yourself."
Jesus tells us: On these two Commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets. While you are doing this, you will be thinking about, and loving Jesus. Matthew 7: 7-10: tells us: " ask and you shall receive," keep asking for Love and Joy, then thank God and share all Love and Joy with all around you.
While doing this you will be thinking of Jesus and His Love for us.
The Bible tells us: " Repent and be Born Again," change from being selfish and unloving, to being loving and caring. Jesus will be with you all the time to help and guide you: JESUS IS THE WAY. Love God with all your beings, and love your neighbour as you love yourself. Do this and remember Jesus being with you all the time. I say this with love, Foofy. Greetings from Emmy, your sister in Christ. P.S. God will also Love you for it.

I think you are quoting the words to an old hymn here. I think it was, "Keep your eyes upon Jesus..."

It has to do with purpose. Your purpose is to follow Jesus in what you think and do and this does not eliminate every day pursuits, sports, etc. when you need to focus on a task at hand. Jesus also did everyday things like you mention.

You are correct that we can't keep our eyes on Jesus every moment of our lives. We are sinful humans.

That doesn't mean that keeping our eyes on Jesus shouldn't be tried. I mean, when we live out our faith, we do so because of Christ and the cross.

I don't know that there is a verse saying to keep our mind on Jesus always but the closest I would think might be:

Philippians 4:7 King James Version (KJV)

7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

As you can see...God helps us to keep focus on Him. That's gift talk

Ofcourse it is impossible to think about Jesus 24/7, every minute. We have other responsibilities on earth. What I believe it means is to give God the first and most important place in our lives. To fix our mind on Jesus means to think and apply his Word, in every part of our life. Also, our goal is to think the Word of God, as often as possible, and as much as possible. Ofcourse, we can not think the the thoughts of God, which is his Word 24/7, but we can aim to do so, and try to do it more often. To fix our mind on Jesus means to take the words of Jesus, and apply them in every area of our life.

article on the science of love:

13 Scientifically Proven Signs You're in Love | Am I Falling in Love?

"People who are in love report that they spend, on average, more than 85 percent of their waking hours musing over their "love object." Intrusive thinking, as this form of obsessive behavior is called, may result from decreased levels of central serotonin in the brain, a condition that has been associated with obsessive behavior previously. (Obsessive-compulsive disorder is treated with serotonin-reuptake inhibitors.)"
