Lukewarm:
The one who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy; yet has no firm root in themself but is only temporary, and when affliction or persecution occurs because of the word, immediately they fall away. Also, the one who hears the word, and the anxiety of the world and the deceitfulness of wealth choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful. Matthew 13:20-22

Children of God:
The one who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and produces, some a hundred, some sixty, and some thirty times as much. Matthew 13:23 (Those who hear and choose God's commandments, God's righteous way, no matter how much affliction or persecution may occur because of it. They choose his commandments, his righteous way no matter what anxieties of the world they experience and over all worldly possessions.)

We must first and foremost love the Lord our God with all of our heart, with all of our soul, with all of our strength, and with all of our mind and love our neighbor as ourselves. Matthew 22:37-40, Deuteronomy 6:5

Lukewarm, for me, means "I know I should be cold" but "I still like a hot shower" (and it bugs me that I don't challenge myself to have cold showers).

There are other hot things I do (besides showers), but the principle of the thing is that I should be praying hot showers don't get in the way of my cold spirituality.

I am just picking an example, I don't go around say "why hot showers, why do you tempt me?" - the same way I don't cheer the preacher on saying "preach it, brother! Preach it"

I practice patience, I tithe, I attend Church - I buy gold and clothing and anoint my eye with eye salve, as much as makes sense to me, given that I am supposed to do so in a cold way.

If that doesn't help, you will need to help me!

Christians, old and new, should not dismiss the influence of the world on their devoutness. We are constantly being drawn away from our faith by worldly distraction. Any Christian can fall into a lukewarm or cold state because we live in a world of sin.

Many Christians shrug at the world and think it trivial. That we are okay to live our lives in pursuit of worldly gain and pleasures, but scripture doesn't support that idea whatsoever. Every indulgence can be (and usually is) a snare to lead us away from a devout Christian life.

I think it's sad that so many don't see it for what it is and end up in idolatry of this or that. "Such small, seemingly insignificant things can't be leading me away from my faith.", but they are, if you stop and take a look at them.

My view is that anything less than devoutness is lukewarm. Any distraction is turning that dial toward colder waters.

I think lukewarm Christians are those who either go to church out of habit but don’t really care, or claim to be Christian but lack an active prayer life and don’t go to church. I was lukewarm in my early 20s, for four years between the ages of 22 1/2 and 26 1/2.

Those who think “religion” is reserved only for a certain location on a certain day of the week, and otherwise don’t let their professed beliefs influence them any.
