IMO The Old Scofield ref. Bible is a MUST have for any serious Bible student. There is a wealth of knowledge there. Some of it has been updated in the newer edition. But there is no substitute for the original. I had to buy one to use in a couple of my theology courses, but it quickly became my main Bible (as in the one that I carry around with me), and it is the one that I most often recommend to my students....

I like the Scoffield's a lot. A great study Bible. I like the New version better, but the old one is an equally reliable source.

Just an FYI that Scofield's Study Bible was and is the primary source for understanding a theological interpretive model called dispensationalism, which is a very popular model with fundamentalist Christians who insist on literal interpretations of the bible. All of these fine folks who have recommended Scofields also subscribe to dispensationalist interpretations of one variety or another. While I do not subscribe to that model, I think Scofield's is still a valuable tool for biblical studies because of the popularity of dispensationalism.

I have one. Had it since I was 13. It is my primary Bible. However...I do disagree with some of Dr. Scoffield's ideas. I don't subscribe to dispensationalism, although it is intriguing. Need more study. Just remember that his notes are not the inspired part and you will find it an outstanding Bible study tool.
