  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

It means that you must obey God and do what he says. If you do that then you are bearing fruit and making the world a better place.

Being cut off means that you will be rejected by God and will be sent to hell. We must obey God to show true faith and if we don't then we won't be saved. Jesus knows his true followers by how they live and follow his teachings, simply claiming you believe but disobeying is false faith and Jesus won't recognize the individual as one of his sheep.

in john 15 he says that he will cut off every branch that does not bear fruit.
what does bearing fruit mean
and what does it mean to be cut off.

One thing it does not mean is that you produce fruit, that is the Holy Spirits job. We bear the fruit that He produces through us as we abide in Christ. That good fruit is the very character of Christ. To abide means to remain where you are. Jesus is the Vine, we are the branches, don't try to be Jesus, be who you are....be a branch.

In the orchard, branches that do not bear fruit are removed and discarded. They are good only for firewood. A fruitless life is a wasted life.

If that is so, then confession, among other things, is pointless.

Plus, it is not our obedience, but the Holy Spirit's obedience. We are not granted salvation because of our obedience, but if we are being saved then the Holy Spirit will lead us to become more and more like God.

This illustration has a symbolic meaning. For vines to product the most fruitage desired, intermittent care is needed. Care such as examining new branches in order to determine which one are bearing fruit and which ones are barren. Un-or low baring branches will still draw nutrients and water from the trunk. Also, near the base of the bearing branch, new sprouts that also need to be removed. If left to grow, they, likewise, will draw sap from the vine that could otherwise provide vital moisture for the grapes. Furthermore, as well, some of the large leaves may likewise be removed to allow the young grapes better access to the sunlight.

Those of us that profess to be Christians, also need this same symbolic nurturing. For those that refuse or reject to produce fruitage or to be spiritually cared for will be symbolically cut down and burned.-Matthew 7:19;15:13; Acts 5:38.

No, the fruits of the Faith are LOVE, not trying not to sin according to a set of rules.
Love is the Law of Christ.
Humility is a premise and a fruit.

Yes, but I think there’s a difference in emphasis between obedience and bearing fruit. Bearing fruit focuses on the result, that what we do is useful for other people.

If you look at Jesus’ teachings and parables about judgement, the examples he gives of people being judged by God, it is always for things they did to hurt other people.

I agree that this comes from living in obedience to God. Motivation matters. People who think they have to prove themselves by doing good deeds and stamping out sin are likely to get legalistic. Jesus certainly expects us to bear fruit, and warns against not doing so. But mostly he talks about being obedient servants.

Plus, it is not our obedience, but the Holy Spirit's obedience. We are not granted salvation because of our obedience, but if we are being saved then the Holy Spirit will lead us to become more and more like God.

Being Born Again, doesn't stop us from being Human. Meaning we are going to make mistakes. When we do, we know that we are not under the law because we are as the dead to the World, but alive in Christ. We go to him in prayer and ask for forgiveness, if we catch ourselves.
The Word tells us to examine ourselves to see where we stand with the Lord.
2Co 13:5

Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?

The difference between being Born Again and the World when it comes to sin. Is that the world dives into sin, head first, wallowing in it and continuing to sin on a daily basis. Being Born Again, being human and in the flesh right now are still under the fleshy desires that can interfere with our lives and temptation can lead someone astray. that's why we have church and brothers in sisters in Christ. And most importantly the Word. We can go to them and be shown that we are doing something that we aught not be doing. And thru grace of God, we go to him in prayer and ask him to forgive us. But we are not justified by the Law, But through Christ we are justified. Meaning all of our sins have been forgiven.

It is our obedience that matters, We are told it is better to Obey than to sacrifice.

And your correct we are not granted salvation because of what we do, are saved by grace through faith. By repenting of our sins and placing our trust in Jesus.

1Sa 15:22

And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams

Jesus is the vine, and everyone who abides in him is a branch. As branches, we get all of our life from the vine.
Whatever fruit is going to grow from this vine will be seen on the branches. Because we grow out of the vine, we can only produce that vine's fruit.

Galatians 5:22-23King James Version (KJV)
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

A true Christian cannot help but produce this fruit on a fairly regular basis throughout his or her life. It becomes obvious after a while what vine we belong to.

Hope that helps.
