  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What do you think?

Should Truth be sacrificed for good feelings?

  • No. Truth should always be spoken in love.

  • Yes. People's feelings are too precious to be hurt by truth, and facts.

  • I hate either/or questions. Therefore, chalk me up for "Lukewarm."

Dear Silentpoet

I believe this post has gone a bit off tract to the OP. So to continue on would only make things worse.

MAY WE ALL REMEMBER:

X Even though you can't see him, GOD is there!!! O

Actually I think my last post had quite a bit to say about original topic. What I was saying is that speaking the truth is more than just a matter of quoting scripture. Afterall, even the devil has been known to do that. And we must also look at our motives in speaking the truth. Are we speaking to uplift or correct this other person with true motives. Or are we speaking to make ourselves look more holy, knolwedgeable, or to inflate ourselves. We should speak the truth, but our motives must also be true and not focused on ourselves.

Dear Silentpoet

"YOU KNOW A TREE BY THE FRUIT THAT IT BEARS" so says GOD'S WORD.

LIFE IS SO MUCH BETTER WHEN WE REMEMBER:

Well I think the key here is to speak the truth in love i.e. speak the truh to build up your fellow Christians in the Lord but not to just arbitrarily bash them over the head with it.
In the case of new Christians or non Christians (especially strangers to you) I think speaking the truth should be handled very delicately with a sharp eye for potential repercussions.

Well I believe that this thread has wandered backwards and forwards and when it gets down to the nitty-gritty, like most proud and stubborn Christians--truth does hurt!

The truth of human relationship is that you are prepared to admit you made a mistake, now if the truth is given to a person that they never admit they made a mistake. Then that person will feel hurt.

If that person can't say that they are wrong, and you tell them that they can't say that, then of course they will feel hurt.

If that person can't say that they are sorry, and you tell them that they never say they are sorry, then of course they will be hurt.

Now all of these feelings come from PRIDE and STUBBORNNESS.

So get rid of your PRIDE and STUBBORNNESS, then you will accept the truth in regards to human relationship.

Love in Christ
