• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I have been on Lexapro for about a year now. I started on 20 mg and now on 40. I tried to go off it once about 6 months ago and it wasn't a good situation at all and went back on it. I don't notice the difference much but my wife did,

I started on lexapro, which helped my mood tremendously. But I still felt like I had no motivation, and didn't really feel myself. The doc added wellbutrin, and the combination is working very well for me.

To the one who suggested going off meds. Sometimes if I try to stop taking them, I feel better for awhile. But then I slip back into depression. My best "yardstick" is whether I'm painting. If I find that a month or two has gone by and I haven't done anything creative, then I know I should start looking more closely.

To any of you considering going off, or who have gone off, PLEASE consult with a doctor. Get a second opinion if you don't like your doctor. Please. The brain isn't something to mess around with, and going off antidepressants, especially if you do it too fast, can cause a lot of problems. No one here can know your entire situation, and you want to do what's best for you WITH a doctor's guidance.

I have clinical depression with a mood disorder not otherwise specified with psychotic episoids. I take 20mg Lexapro and 50mg Seroquel. Lexapro is ok but I love my Seroquel it makes the "itching", paranoia, irritablity and insomnia go away. I never thought an antipsycotic would ever help me so much.

I take St John's Wort and combine that with frequent exercise, a good diet (sometimes :p ) and avoiding certain thought paths, to keep my depression under control. Discovering St John's Wort was a huge turning point for me, I felt so much better almost immediately. But it's one of a number of factors that keeps me well.

Prozac. It works but I kind of wish it didn't. I don't like being so dependent on it. I initially had taken Zoloft but found I had muscle spasms. Also took Xanax at one point to help me sleep and overcome anxiety. But I don't need it any more, and I'm proud of that. I'm very thankful for the help of my doctor, psychologist, friends and family.
