We have a lot and I do mean LOT of books. Now and then, we have thinned them out a bit, donated to library book sale or resold them.

But that's very unusual, so I voted the first option. ;)

Almost all the books I purchase I'll keep and re-read. About every two years I'll go through my collection and round up the ones that I either didn't read a second time or, only re-read once. Those I take to my favorite local used bookstore and trade them for more books.

If I liked the book, I keep it and re-read it later on. If I didn't like it, well, I keep it anyways, because there's a chance I missed something I should have liked about the book. I then re-read it after a good year of thinking ;)

I had to chuckle when I found this thread... I do keep them, I even dig them out of trash cans. The job I use to work at; our local school would sometimes toss books, it cost so much to send them to another school, so I would take them home. Also many years ago, we had a bishop that lived in our small village and when he died many of his old books were thrown away. A neighbor, friend, teacher I worked with for many years - we both got half way in the dumpster and pulled out books from the 1800's. What a site that must have been!
I have finally started to give books away...
But, my Agatha Christie, I will re-read. When I am finally through, I have the option of the university I work at to donate them to the library...

You forgot an option: All of the above! ;)

Many of my books I will keep and re-read till the covers fall off. I still keep them to read after that, but I only throw them away once the cover-less ones have started losing multiple pages or sections of the book. If its REALLY a good book, I'll wander the local used book store and see if they have another copy!

Books that I've enjoyed but don't need to read again I'll pass along to friends or donate them to the local library.

My wife has a series of books she loves so much, she won't even throw away the beat up ones, because while the books are still available, they're in their fourth publication and she doesn't like the new covers. I offered to paste her old covers over the new books, she didn't think it would be the same.

Depends on the books. Ones I love and know I will reread I definitely keep. I've been weeding through some of my books. I've gotten rid of ones I don't think I'll ever read, or maybe started reading and didn't care for.
Also, I'm our church librarian. So, some books, even if I may reread them, I'll donate to our library. That way I can check them out anytime, and I have more room in my house!!!
