Why do you object to having church meetings on Sabbath?

Well, my parents and sister aren't Adventists, so we don't do any family Sabbath activities, but I spend the time studying the Bible, reading Ellen White, and praying. That's pretty much it. Not much else I can do.

That's interesting. How did you become an Adventist? There is another member here, ttreg, who was baptized recently but whose family is not Adventist either.

My husband's parents didn't go to any church when he was growing up (his mom used to be an Adventist and his dad a Catholic, but they both left their churches before he was born), but his grandparents took him to the Adventist Church.

I know it's harder to keep the Sabbath when family members don't understand or are not supportive of it.

Well, my Grandparents always took my sister and I every other week. I despised going, but I went just to make my Grandma happy. It was so boring and I didn't like getting up early. I didn't really know anything about church, and I wasn't learning anything, but I still went. Eventually my sister stopped going and it was just me.

One day in Sabbath School our Teacher was talking about Pathfinders and said that they were going to have a group at a church near ours, so when she asked if I would want to do it, I figured I would if my friends at church were going to.

Later on, in the Fall, we (Pathfinders) had to usher at some Revelation seminars. So I ushered at all of those meetings, and I had to sit in the Sanctuary during them.

My curiousity was sparked. The lessons were deep, interesting, and engaging. At the last night, I felt convicted that I needed to get right with the Lord if the End was approaching, so I marked my card to study for baptism.

Here I am today. :)

Well not really the church mettings, I menat the church staff meetings. They have a hard trouble controlling their emotions, so all they do is argue and nothing gets resolved. it just ruins the Sabbath.

What a coincidence, my church , being quiet new, had it's first staff meeting last night, Sunday Night. I agree that meetings of this sort arn't to be held on the Sabbath for it is business. Also to go back afew subjects, Me, my Mum and my Sister are baptised Seventh-Day Adventists. My dad id attending church with us and doing bible studies, and my brother is completely against religion. But I'm praying for him. Please pray for him too, his name is Jason. I'm not saying that this discussion is bad, but can we please get back onto the subject of what your family does together on the Sabbath. Thank you, and God Bless.

That's very similar to my mum. She starts reading a book while lying on the couch and then falls asleep for the rest of the Sabbath afternoon. Her excuse is
I was just resting my eyes.
Which was true at the start when she put the book down, but then she falls into a deep sleep, where it's hard to wake her.But the good thing is it's resting not working that we do, as the Lord commands plenty of times like in Exodus 20.
God Bless

Here we go to Sabbath School, then church...sometimes we have potluck...then we come home and usually take a nap or relax...then we have family time and dinner, take walks, bike ride...

My husband is not a believer...I am a new believer...baptised about a month ago, but been going to chuch on the Biblical Sabbath for over a year. I have 2 boys, 1 and 5, who go to church with me...so it is nice, just praying for my husband b/c it is a huge challenge to keep a strong Christian home when the man of the house is not Christian, so prayers would be great...but we are blessed and the Lord is helping me through all the challenges!

i would not say i am a sevvie but i go to a sevvie church and keep the sabbath as saturday.

yeah, i go to church, which is rad, then the beach or a park, maybe go for a surf, then make lunch/dinner with friends and eat and study the word or talk about what is happening in our lives in relation to Jesus. its great. hung out with this family for a few months that were very different, for example after churchh would come straight home (to their house) then would maybe play a bible based game or something then watch a dvd such as "Time Life: Moses" or something similar. then would eat dinner together and close sabbath by having a reading of from the bible and some prayer time, it was great, really gave me a different view on the sabbath and its importance, although we never went swimming which is one of my fav things to do, it still taught me alot, so yeah :D thats my sabbath

i do the opposite of everything your so not supposed to do well . purgatory for me then. or is my life already being judged do you have the answer?

The opposite of what you are supposed to do according to whom? Who sets the standards of what is acceptable to do on Sabbath? The Bible doesn't give us a lot of specifics. It tells us to rest from our work and honor it as God's holy day. It tells us to delight in the Lord and to refrain from our own selfish pleasures (Isaiah 58:13-14). Jesus tells us that we should do good on the Sabbath. Beyond those principles, people have all kinds of different ideas about whether it's okay to go out to eat, swim vs. wade, etc. It really comes down to personal conviction, though. You should do what God has impressed upon your heart as right, always in line with biblical principles. Following a set of external regulations without any internal conviction is the epitome of legalism.

Another thing we can discuss in here is the plan of how your church operates it's plan. For example:
Before the service my church has a prayer group for those who want to. Then we sing two worship songs, then have a prayer and notices, then two more songs, with our church band, which needs a name if you can think of one please give it to me, then a prayer. The children go and do activities and the Sermon is given by one of afew preachers we have. Occasionally we have guests. Then we seperate into groups to discuss the sermon. After that there is a final song. All songs are from Hillsong Musin Australia. In the afternoon we have activities like lunch, concerts, community outreach etc: Every now and again my church has a camp. So what happens at your church?
