Just curious as to what people are collecting out there.
My collection is very interesting. I collect gargoyles and lighthouses. How funny that they are very different huh?
I collect all manner of things, mostly by accident, so to speak - as in, I never meant to collect them, but just started buying them (or whatever) and it kind of snowballed. I'm a big fan of Doctor Who, so have a very large collection (by no means exhaustive of episodes on VHS and DVD, as well as novels, original novelisations, and CDs. It dominates three large bookshelves in my house!

Also, I collect autographs. If I go to see a gig, or a play starring someone I like, I'll go to the stage door afterwards and ask them to sign something relevant, like a CD or something.

I've combined the two collections, of course - I've been to quite a few Doctor Who-related signings and conventions.

Also, I've got a small collection of Bibles - I was (and indeed still am) quite interested in issues of translation, and have about a dozen different translations. I tend to use the NIV and the Message as my main translations, but it's good to have the other ones there.

David.

I collect Credit Cards. It was easy in the beginning but it gets harder when my credit reports reached 50+ pages... (I usually cancel the cards once I had it for a year, but closed accounts still show up on my credit reports. Oh well, it's actually a good way to check my credit reports everytime I got rejected for a new card... ;) )

At first I only collected cards with my name on it. Lately I started asking for additional (authorized user) cards in made-up names. So far, I have cards for
  • "Wiley E. Coyote" for my Disney Card
  • "John Q. Customer" for my Paypal Card
  • "William H. Gates III" for my Amazon.com Visa
  • "Henry Ford" for my GM Card
  • "Christopher Columbus" for my Discover Card
  • "Vladimir Putin" for my American Express
  • "C.O. Jones"
  • "Jesus H. Christ"
  • "Judas Iscariot"
and other...

well, let's see... i collect lights (2 glitter lamps (1 red, 1 silver), 1 blacklight, 1 strobe, 1 disco, a florescent guitar, this red spikey light bulb, 1 purple lava lamp...etc.). i also collect posters. mostly of bands and such, but also awesome quotes and song lyrics. my favorite collection though, is definitely my t-shirts. i lvoe a t-shirt w/ a good catchy or sarcastic saying on it. *thumbs up* my current one reads: "Abortion is Homicide". i get a lot of comments on it.

if i had enough money, i'd collect guitars too, but as of this moment, i have only my Washburn lead and my MarkII acoustic (also building a bass for my senior project).

*breathe* done.

I had collected TY beanie babies. I have a bag full of them.

Then I stopped and started collecting Lord of the Rings stuff (20 book marks, 25 buttons, 40+ action figures).

But now I've gone back to TY beanie babies, but my main focus are the bears. :)

Did you know everytime your rejected its actually lowering your credit score? Something about the number of times someone has viewed your credit report compared to how many items you have on it. I don't remeber exactley why it gets lowers, but its something to that affect. I really don't know how you got a credit card in Bill Gates name. I was an authorized user on a family memebers account, and even though I wasn't responciple for making the payment, how my family memeber handled the account was put on my credit report. If you infact have Mr. Gates as an authorized on your account, its going to show up on his credit report. So I would expect a call from someone close to him, next time he views his credit report. I would get that cleared up ASAP.

i collect watches. most of what i have are mechanical watches. i have some battery ones, but prefer the non-battery ones. as i get older i find that i am looking at more pricey items. once i got a few rolexs and a few patek phillipes, and a few other high end jobs i lost interest. especially since they are worth more than my cadillac. i am thinking that i don't like having to have theft insurance and riders and film and appraisals just to cover my watches.

i am most interested in pre 1960 wristwatches. i have a few pocket watches, but don't focus on them. once i maxed out a credit card cause i saw a few 14k solid gold pocket watches and bought them. now i will not buy a watch unless i have the cash on hand.

i have 130 watches at this time. recently i started wearing one watch. i must be getting bored with the collection. the watch i wear is a descendent of my first rolex. i had bought a used oyster perpetual and kept trading up until i got a gold one. it keeps almost perfect time, and i don't have to make decisions each time i look into the watch cabinet. i think that i have a couple of new watches. i prefer to get them used. one of my patek phillipe pieces has a list price of $35,000, sells retail for about $32,000 and i got it for $9,800 cause it was used.

i think that now that i have reached top of collecting, , or, as far as i am willing to go. (after all we are talking about objects that can cost millions of dollars. in fact a patek phillipe sold at auction last year at 4 mil. anyway, i do think i am bored now. i have a couple of coins and think maybe i want to pursue that. i also think that perhaps i am just getting tired of collecting anything.

i also have a collection of small prayer books from before 1900. the best one i had was from early 1600's. it was an italian prayer book. i like small books.

You're kidding! I collect them, too! I'm still looking for a TR-1 - they're kinda priced out of my range...

How many do you have? My nicest one is a Sony slash Seiko clock pocket radio...

I collect old cameras. I have cameras from the 1920's through the 1950's, some look like new. I don't have all that many, some I purchased, some were given to me. More than that, I love using them. Most of my old cameras are in perfect working condition. I hate seeing a classic camera go to waste in the bottom of someone's closet! I specialize in old TLR cameras (twin lens reflex).

I'm also a professional full time photographer, so it's neat to break out an old TLR camera and bring it to one of my portrait sessions. The results are usually first class because they made cameras well and you have to think as you shoot, and it makes you much more careful about what you are doing. And there is quite a different look that can be achieved using specialty film in an old camera vs. the newer digital cameras I use in my everyday work.

I collect flamingos! I love them. I don't have any yard ones, but I have candles and statues, pictures, clothes and purses. I figure anything that is pink and whose legs bend backwards has to have a sense of humor. I also collect Willow Tree angels, and I have them on my mantel. They give me such joy! I love scottie dog items too. Other than that, I collect yarn, sewing fabric, scrapbooking supplies and dust! LOL!
