Honestly I wasn't even thinking about what it would be like in my 30's when I was in my 20's... those were the years where age didn't mean a thing because we were invincible LOL ... Good thing too because it's not what I would have imagined... But, I wouldn't change a thing... All has had a purpose and reason.. For that I am grateful :)

If I remember correctly, I thought I'd be married with a baby or two by the time I was 30. Probably teaching high school and living in a suburb in the Midwest...

However, God had different plans for me. I do teach high school, but I moved from the Midwest to L.A. in August 2003. Lived there for four awesome years, and then moved to the Czech Republic to live and serve as a missionary since August 2007. Life has been one grand adventure. Though marriage and kids haven't been part of it (yet), I still lead a very rich, blessed life. :)

I'm not sure, in some ways, that I gave the matter a great deal of though: it seems so much that the most the important steps I've taken in life have kind of occurred unexpectedly, or at any rate, without explicit or direct or extensive forewarning.

Biggest difference? I thought I'd be married, probably by now (I'm 33), but, well, anyway, that hasn't happened, yet. I suppose the career (could one even say vocation? perhaps, sort of) isn't exactly what I had in mind when I was younger, but it is kind of related to earlier dreams, hopes and plans. My other plans to escape living in a big city also came to fruition (more recently), again, not quite as I had previously anticipated they might, but all in all in a better way.

In any case, I've still 7 years left of my thirties. Hopefully they will be every bit as much a time of development and growth as my 20s were (with the added bonus of experience and hopefully having learned from past mistakes)

I'm right there with ya! Only difference is no kids. I'm on a different path too but I discoved my wonderful Interpreting career and a calling to help others:preach::D
Its good you've found something you enjoy tartan, not everyone is able to. Sometimes we work only as a means to an end.

I thought I'd be researching cures for diseases. I at least thought I'd have a job.
Keeping you in prayer james. There should be a lot of job openings in the near future for infrastructure jobs if your able to do that, its temporary, but still something.

BratFace I feel the same.

I'm doing pretty much everything I'd wanted to when I was younger. Except for homeschooling. I wasn't counting on that part, but now that we're into it, it's great!
Homeschooling is good Lena. I've seen good things from friends that have done this. There are sacrafices, but it seems well worth it.

Thats great AmaandaB, I had a similiar experience of teaching and living in Japan for 4 years. Enjoy your time, you'll learn a lot, and grow a lot if you allow yourself.

coastal wanderer, it sounds like some progression is happening, not in your timing but the Lords. I think its neat when we envision something one way, we desire it and its not exactly the way we wanted but God has an even better plan.

working in the movie industry on sets
PLease do tell, any prospects? I had some similiar aspirations in my teen years and am now following my film interest in a different way.

I expected to be married with kids already... but ahh well. All in good time I guess.
doc13, your not alone, it seems many people in this thread are in the same boat and the number seems to grow throughout the world.

I never thought that I would be divorced lol. I did since college expect to be where I am right now, but I thought I would be in a higher supervisory position. I didn't think that I would be the way I am, going to track on my Sportbike, living my years I missed when I was married, out trying to enjoy life. There is a lot that I still want to do, marriage is something in my distant future, but right now, trying to embrace that God is giving me.

The exact same thing that I am doing. Helping young people when they are ill as a pediatrician. I also hope soon that God will bring a man in my life and a family to follow shortly after.

Wow that's awesome! You are already asking God, he will bless you with that, as you have already put it in his hands.

Anyone have thoughts on what you thought you'd be doing in your 30's back when you were 20?

Thought my youngest child would be at least a teenager by now (as I'm currently in my late 30's ). However, she's 2 years old and I'm cool with that and loving it!

Also thought I'd be a manager/supervisor in the business world. Instead I'm a Senior Co-partner in my home and a Principal (I home school our two lovely children). And again, I'm loving it!
