  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What denominaton should I be?

As I go through some of the posts the confusion about denominations are many - I thought I would show you how God dealt with me on this matter as it has been a source of great turmoil in my life. I went back to my poems and found where God gave me the answer - this post will deal with how He showed me the answer.

===========

My life had been in turmoil for three or four years and part of the turmoil was my husband leaned toward one religion and I leaned toward another - We had been back and forth a few years here and a few years there and my husband was never happy away from his original church.

Finally in 1998 he made the decision 'I will go back to my church.' The Bible tells us that if we have a husband that is submissive to God, then we should be submissive to him so in obiedence to that scripture and knowing that we should worship together, I went back with him to his original church, kicking and screaming all the way. I really did not want to attend this church.

God really dealt with me on this matter and one day as I was on the computer I saw in my mind's eye a drop of blood. Knowing that this is how the Lord gives me the poems, I knew He was up to something, so I just kept that vision in my mind and asking God what it was that he was doing or wanted me to do.

Nothing more developed for a few days, then again as I was working, several drops of blood became imbedded in my mind and I still did not know what the Lord wanted me to do with this vision.

Finally a few days later the drops of blood had names on them, one was Baptist, one was Catholic and one Jewish. Immediately I knew the Lord was dealing with me over this indecision of churches. I sat down at the computer and said 'Lord fire away - I am ready.' The words to the poem 'Angel's Dilemma' came forth.

As I put the page up on the web for the world to see, I was in thanksgiving that the Lord had again been faithful and answered prayers.

We sometimes get caught up in the religious spirits that are around us when the name of the religion is not that important. In a class we were taking in this church the pastor was asked what it meant to be this certain religion and his answer was 'a deep and abiding walk and love of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.' I sat there and thought - so what is so different - maybe they go about it in different ways, but the end result is all the same - a precious walk with our Lord and Savior and the precious touch of Jesus by the guidance of the Holy Spirit - that's what it is all about.

My thoughts are still non-denominational but what makes the difference where we are if we are going by the leading of the Holy Spirit. There are precious people there and their prayers are beautiful.

I think we need to all get rid of the religious spirits and devote more of our time making sure our hand is held tightly in the Masters hand and following in His footsteps only.

I think you are right

Also we should remember that Jesus said narrow is the path that leads to life,

Matthew 7:14 "But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it."

Not all the denominations are exactly the same, nobody is perfect and somewhere along the way I think you can find mistakes just about anywhere even scriptures say that everyone falls short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23)

I think you are a genius for submitting to your husband, it is the goodness of God that leads people to repent, (Romans 2:4)

I think it does not so much as where you are but what do you with where you are. What I mean is try to make the most of your church, if you see any serious flaws try to find scripture to support them and ask about it.

BTW very smart post too, thank you for sharing

Hi LilLamb - my question was not me asking what denomination I should be - but quoting what I have read many times from others.

God has settled that question for me - my thinking is totally non-denominational - I am just a Child of God walking hand in hand with Jesus and being led by the Holy Spirit.

I believe in the Father, Son and Holy Spirit - 3 in one - baptised in water and the Holy Spirit, communion and the Nicene Creeds, but I have found when I try to find those in a church, I also find a lot of man made laws and rules that really are not laid out in Scripture - I just want a walk without a label and do what I am led to do and witness the way I am led to do.

That poem came straight from the Throne of God and settled it totally for me.

I think the problem is over-obsession about denominations, yes.

That said, I'm Presbyterian: not because it's right and everybody's wrong; because Presbyterianism's first principle is "everybody's wrong" ("total inability").

So yeah, I've no real problem with any or no denomination that preaches and trusts in Christ Jesus and Him crucified, for salvation.

What I do have a problem with is the "I'm right" mentality. Sometimes I take delight in bringing down such items, and that's probably wrong, too. But I haven't found a way to redeem those cases.

And redemption is the point.

We're all beggars looking for bread.

Hi Sharon…Loved your poem! Wow how I can relate to the decision of which house of the Lord one should dwell in. Granted there are so many different interpretations of scripture out there, which unfortunately has divided the church and have also given rise to so many versions and translations of bibles. What’s sad is that even modern versions of the Bible has errors in which the meaning is different from others and it’s unfortunate that just a simple letter or word that’s not in proper alignment with the body of scripture can shift ones faith just a tad off direction. BTW thank you for your kind words regarding my post a couple up from yours about me going to two churches. Ya know Sharon I’ve always wondered about what will happen to a flock that’s mislead. Let’s say they choose the wrong Church. Take the two most scrutinized Christian belief platforms out there. JW’s and Mormons. Indeed they have been deemed as Cults and or Sects. I have known several people and families that have belonged to both and I have to say that they were beautiful, wonderful, kind hearted people. I’ve heard so much negative feedback from other Christians regarding these two. I’ve always wondered: If the flock is mislead and the flock are good , God fearing people who do good deeds, loves their brothers, sisters, neighbors, and tries to live a humble and righteous life, will God show them mercy and go after the ones who started the cults and sects, or will he condemn them all? What do you think? I just need to know how some of my Christian brethren think. God Bless

Thank you Skyhawk - we cannot judge what is in the hearts of people - Jesus made it very simple, but man has made it so complex and confusing. He left us with only wo commandments when he ascended into Heaven - Have no other Gods before me - Love your neighbor as yourself - if we keep those two - we have covered all the rest.

If you will search around in the site I gave you above with the poem - there is a story behind each poem and will answer a lot of questions - these came straight from the Throne - I am not a poet - and they were for someone who had questions and the poems hit it right every time to help. You will find it interesting - the beginning of the site is: Diamonds from Heaven

I couldnt find a church near me (I was not sure what denomination either but more concerned about the church itself and what it taught/believed etc) so prayed for god to give me a sign and a couple of days later was approached by a treasure hunter from my (now church) been going there for almost 5 months and it is the perfect church for me, and exactly the sort of church i was looking for. Ask god to lead you to the right church for you, and even if you are lead to one that is not a denomination you have considered give it a try (unless it is a cult of course, lol)

Belong to a denomination, where the whole Bible is preached, where the full Gospel is preached, not just some parts of it.
In fact, there are no denominations in heaven. When you go to heaven, you would not ask something like 'Excuse me, where is the department for pentecostal christian please'?
