1. Faith that Jesus is Lord and Savior.
2. If He is Lord, He is the Master of your life.
3. Him being 'Master' implies that one is in service to Him. In exchange, He takes care of you.
4. As Gansta for Christ mentioned, faith and works are inseparable.
5. Because Christ is our Master, we obey. By obeying, we do what He asked us to do, and we value what He values.
This covenant relationship was never put in place out of obligation. God's people were separated from Him. He made a way for them to have access to Him. We are free to choose whether we want this access or not. Because we know that 1. God loves us and 2. God values righteousness, justicess, and goodness, we fall in love with who He is.
If someone says 'I love you' to you but doesn't extend a helping hand when you need it, doesn't desire to spend time with you, doesn't follow through with their word or commitments to you, and doesn't have your best interest in mind, naturally their 'love' for you would be in question. Same with us and God. Words are empty without action. His action was His arms stretched out on a cross, we show our action by having faith that He did what He said He did, by telling others of this act of love, and by living in a manner that is pleasing to Him.
