Besides, if it appears to have unity anyway, it's because the books that make up the Bible were handpicked and decided by vote, IIRC. (how many didn't make the cut?)
Quite a number did not make the cut, including many gospels. Of course, any book that wasn't chosen was not chosen because it is heretical or fake. We know they were heretical or fake, because they were not chosen.
QV please:
The job of the council was not to create an authorized canon of books, but to created a canon of the authorized books.

In other words, the books of the Bible were already authorized, it was just a matter of filtering out the rest.

If you were put in a room full of legal and non-legal tender and told to sort them out, could you?

Sure you could --- they would be easy to spot:

  • one dollar bill here
  • two dollar bill here
  • three dollar bill there
  • four dollar bill there
  • five dollar bill here
  • etc.

And how did you know which bills were real and which ones were fake, AV?
That's the Federal Reserve's job -- (I think).

A 7-dollar bill is obviously fake; whereas a 5-dollar bill isn't.

The point is that the books were already determined to be authentic or otherwise before the council even convened.

And how was that determination made?

Dispensationalists know better; but I'd venture to say that is a little over your head.

lol as if dispys are the only Christians who aren't out trying to kill gays and infidels. Obviously it's a little over your head AV!

The very nature of religion tells you that if you question it you lack faith.

No that's the nature of the modern secular definition of 'faith', which certainly isn't the Christian definition.

Faith is believing something that science says is otherwise.

I am sure this was asked here before, but I cannot find it after searching, so I have a question for the creationists, what creation story is the "correct" one? I've heard many, here is a short (and very simplified) list:

1. The Hebrew one (you know, Adam, Eve, 7 days).

2. Pan Gu and Nu Wa: from the Chinese culture, Pan Gu and Nu Wa and two gods, the first created (and became) the Earth, the second, several centuries later, created humans from mud because she was lonely.

3. Second and fourth Brahmanas (Indian): In the beginning the world was only Brahma, but he was alone, and grew with time, eventually growing as large as two people embracing and finally splitting into a man and a woman, and they mated originating the human race.

4. Odin and Ymir (Borse): The first man (Ymir, a frost giant) was created from the drips of thawing ice. The thawing ice gave rise to other people, including Odin, the most powerful god. Odin, along with his brothers destroyed Ymir and his remains became the earth.

5. Kumulipo (Hawaii): Life originated from the mating between a deep cavern (male) and the darkest night (female). First the primitive sea animals were created, eventually land animals, and finally humans.

I could go on and on, there are literally hundreds, but you get the message. So, which one of these is the "correct" creation story, and why? I have always struggled with this (and please don't say "because the bible says so", every one of those stories is documented in some sort of book).

I don't struggle with this as I'm satisfied with the biblical account. No need to go turning over rocks for other explanations. :)

#1 is correct because the real person, Jesus, taught that it was correct.
Then He died in defence of the stories He related to us.
As did His followers.
The Hebrew version also gives the most scientific explanation for the formation
of the world from the mind of God. Other stories trust that matter has always
existed, or that it magically forms from fluctuating quantum fields....now and then.

And here I always believed that He died in atonement for our sins.

It is written, yes.
.
I'm glad you are able to show at least some grudging approval of the idea.

The notion that Jesus really died in defense of the literal inerrancy of scripture is a novelty to me.

And I agreed most best with:
