Vis: I'm a partial preterist and amillenialist (iow a typical catholic). I think that most of Revelation is about stuff that happened back in John's time, not the end of days. It's about the persecution of Christians by Rome. Ceasar Nero adds up to 666, etc. The only part of Revelation that is future is the part about Christ's return and the judgment. The point of Revelation is "Christians!!! Listen up!!! Things look horrific and hopeless, but WAIT pull back the curtain the the truth will be revealed: God is in control. JESUS WINS." It is so that all christians during times of tribulation can hear this message that this book was added to canon.
