I hear you. Dark Forces 2's lightsaber combat was bad, since you had to perform the whole thing from a first person perspective. I never got a chance to play the original, though, but I suspect it is the same. You gotta love the missile launcher in DF2 that can stick missiles on guys. lol.
Actually there wasn't any lightsaber combat in Dark Forces.

The big question though (I know this is straying from the topic of this thread) which repeater was better? DF2 or JO/JA? I would tend to lean toward DF2 on account of it's better accuracy, though the secondary fire wasn't that great, like JO/JA's.
They're kind of equal, DF2's you could almost snipe with, JO/JA's is only good in rapid fire and grenade-type weapon combo. What's funny is that (at least, when I played), I overheard stormtroopers talking about the new repeater rifles, and how accurate they are. Fight the storm troopers carrying them, and, all of a sudden, their shots are deadly accurate! They're almost always aimed between my eyes! Get the gun. Can't hit squat. And I'm usually accurate with the storm trooper rifle. DF2's repeater was pretty much the same as DF's, same with the storm trooper rifle, bryar pistol, fist, thermal detonators, (and that's all off the top of my head I can remember being in both games).
Oh, DF and DF2 both have a concussion rifle, but they're different. DF's, when you first play it, you'll pick it up, go to a long hallway to test it out, shoot it at a storm trooper, hear a "Whoosh!", see the gun push back, and see nothing happen just long enough for you to go "well that su-"
BOOM! on the other end of the hallway.
And the CR didn't have secondary fire.
Gotta love it.
