For those of us who feel that our government is being dismantled, turned upside down and perhaps irreparably damaged, what can we do?

Posting here is useless. In fact any social media is pointless.
We can get involved at our local level politics but that is unrelated to the bigger picture.
Gerrymandering has pretty much determined who gets our votes.
I have not been one form demonstrations and protests. They may do more harm than good.

It seems to me that more energy into our House of Representatives and Senate candidates is about our best option.

I see where you are 70, so i guess you are retired and not working. So i would suggest you find something to do to occupy your time, so you do not worry about Americas government.

You do not have at the most 30 years if you were to live to 100. So why waste your time worrying about politics.

That's the most important thing. But, although it pains me to say it, I think it's time for LGBTs to take a hit for the team. The sex stuff has divided the working class more than any other issue. That will be tough for some, but not worse than the '50s. I remember how that worked, I was just a kid but my parents had friends who we knew were gay, and how that secret was protected. Some gays, of course, were killed and some beaten up but for the most part if you kept quiet about it you were OK, I also remember when the first American "came out" with gender reassignment surgery. 1952 that was, and a sensation in the media. Too bad, but at this point it's more important to re-unite the working class. We need to, to get the Congress we need..

Too old to be a patriot? I wasn't aware there was an age limit.

Who's going to take the hit after that? Blacks? Non-Christians? Or is it the turn of the women?

You bring up some very valid points;

I think you are accurate in getting involved with Congress and supporting the candidate that reflects your beliefs - getting involved with a National Campaign is helpful also - door to door and donating for your candidate, while seemingly minor becomes greater the more that are involved.

I think it is part of the reason we were able to defeat the Democratic Party on so many levels National, Congressional etc.

I see where you are 70, so i guess you are retired and not working. So i would suggest you find something to do to occupy your time, so you do not worry about Americas government.

Here are some political suggestions:

  • Treat others with respect, regardless of their vote or beliefs.
  • Understand that differing political ideologies do not make someone an enemy of America.
  • Support President Trump's agenda when you agree with it, even if you disagree most of the time.
  • Engage with your local party office and work towards the next election.

Yes, i am sure there are some people going to hell that would like to know how to receive God's free gift of Eternal Life by belief in Jesus. But i guess it is more important to worry about and argue over american politics.

I might add that I think neither of the two parties deserve my. So it comes down to congressional candidates representatives and communicating/influencing them. Door to door had me thinking one would have to be really committed to a candidate or issue and ready to defend.

I never said i did not on occasion make a post about government or politics. But is does not cause me to worry about who is in office or politics in general.

That's what is happening now unless we stop it. The United States is a global superpower facing serious economic and geopolitical challenges. Who uses which bathroom isn't one of them. No, it's time to step back from LGBT for a while. I understand that AOC took her "preferred pronouns" off her websites the morning after Trump's victory was announced. All Democrats should do likewise. But is astonishing to me that how a small minority of people conduct their sex lives should be a national political issue. The national government has more important issues facing it. It shouldn't be wasting time with what is essentially a religious dispute.

Good advice for the child less who have no stake in the future for those of us who do have descendants whom we love, we want them to have a good future.

I respectfully disagree. Issues are important, but so is the character of the individuals we elect to govern or craft legislation for the most powerful country in the world.

A major issue today is that most American voters stick to party lines, ignoring candidate character.

It is essential to have two centrist parties that are open to compromise.

However, this is not remotely possible until we acknowledge that, regardless of political ideology, every American desires a better future for the country. The issue today is the misconception that one side believes the other side aims to destroy America. This is an absolutely false assumption.

I made a small gesture this week. I have some money parked in T-bills, which are essentially a loan to the U.S. government. I told my financial advisor to move it all out of T-bills upon their expiration. I'm sure my loan to the U.S. government is so small that .gov won't miss it, but I feel better knowing I'm not helping fund this current government beyond what is legally required from my taxes.
