My favorites? Wow, that's tough...

In no particular order:
Gene Wolfe-- Book of the New Sun, Book of the Long Sun cycles
Frank Herbert-- Dune series
Edgar Rice Burroughs-- A Princess of Mars
Michael Moorcock-- Hawkmoon and Elric cycles
J.R.R. Tolkien-- The Silmarillion
Jack Vance-- The Compleat Dying Earth
Roger Zelazny-- the first Amber quintet
H.P. Lovecraft-- any Dreamlands stories
Clark Ashton Smith-- any Xiccarph/Hyperborea/Zothique stories
various authors-- Philip Jose Farmer's The Dungeon
Robert E. Howard-- Conan, Solomon Kane stories
C.S. Friedman-- Coldfire trilogy
Dan Simmons-- Hyperion Cantos

Recent darlings have been China Mieville's New Crobuzon novels and Steven Erikson's Malazan Book of the Fallen...

Although they conflict with my faith, I really liked the His Dark Materials series by Philip Pullman. I also really like the Redwall series by Brian Jacques and the Shannara series by Terry Brooks.

I love the Shannara series, and of course Tolkien, and I used to love reading those "John Carter of Mars" books in college. I love some of CJ Cherryh's work - she has some really great books! I also love the Left Behind series, just finished the last book. There's a ton of others I can't think of right now......
