I just had another session of watching The Lord of the Rings (extended edition, of course) with my elderly mom. We watch it in portions here and there. It's one of the few ways she can get me to "socialize" with her in a comfortable fashion, and I know she cherishes our Movie Dates.

Kong: Skull Island
Fantastic movie. If you like adventure / monster movies, you’ll love this. I thought it was perfect. Kong was amazing! Amazing images of him that capture his size & wonder! People will remember the Spider scene! & the Giant Squid scene! Kong vs the helicopters! Kong vs the Skull Crawler!
One thing I really enjoyed in the movie is ALL the monster scenes are set in the day. A lot of these kinds of movies set things at night b/c filmmakers think it adds suspense. But I liked seeing that was dropped for this movie b/c day lets you really see the action a lot better.
Samuel L Jackson as the commander! Thought he was excellent in the role. Made the trope of the ‘general that wants to kill the monster’ seem new & fresh.
Rest of the cast very good!
Only negative thing I can think of is there’s a lot of Marvel-style humor that’s crept into a lot of movies. There’s a few jokes like that in here, not enough to be annoying, but enough to notice. Makes the movie that’s set in the 60’s/70’s seem a little too modern.
Can’t stop ranting & raving about it. I give it a 5/5
Note: I saw Peter Jackson’s Kong a long time ago & liked it but thought it was way too long & they spend way too much time before even getting to the Island. I want to re-watch it or watch one of the original Kong movies!

Transformers, the first one
I was bored. It’s 2 ½ hours so very long. There’s too many characters. There’s 3 different groups of characters going on, 2 are military-related & it’s all military & hacker jargon. I don’t like hacker plots. I kept thinking ‘okay at least the ending battle could be fun’ but it wasn’t. It was too choppy & sometimes hard to tell which robot was which. It took me out of the action & made me notice plotholes in the movie.
On the positive side, I did like Shia LaBeouf & Bumblebee’s relationship. Optimus Prime is pretty cool too.
If yu like action / sci-fi movies, you could at least give it a chance, but I was disappointed. I give this 3/5

The Flashpoint Paradox cartoon Flash movie
I watched this a few months ago w/ a friend, read the comic, & just gave it a rewatch to see how close it follows the comic.
It follows the comic pretty much beat-for-beat. But it also expands on the comic. For example it shows the start of the Wonder Woman / Aquaman War. More characters cameo as commanders. We get a alternate-timeline story for The Atom.
So while I admit I was a tad bored for the scenes that followed the comic b/c it was beat-for-beat, I really liked seeing the expanded material.
BTW, this is the story the new Flash movie is adapting. So those curious about the source material for the Flash movie may want to catch this movie or read the comic.
I recommend this movie if you’re a DC fan (of the comics & other cartoon movies)
I give this a 4/5

Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse

A movie equal parts serious, funny, and heartfelt isn't easy to make work but this one does it. The writing, acting, and animation nail it. Sony is hitting home runs lately.
I’m glad you liked it! My friend automatically likes anything superhero (I’m more critical), we’re seeing it next week. I was concerned it’d be full of messaging, but I’m hearing nothing but positive about it & nothing to dislike about any messaging

The Christian perspective is to have joy even when it’s a disaster because we have assurance in his love. We know he gives in abundance & hears his people. We don’t believe in accidents. We don’t believe in mistakes. We don’t believe in coincidences. We don’t believe in luck. We don’t believe in chance. We have confidence in the unseen. We have faith he will meet our needs. We believe he’s good even when it’s not. We believe he knows what’s best for us. We know he gives what we need in the amount we need it when we need it. We don’t believe ‘it’s too late’ or ‘nothing good can from it’. He knows our hearts & nothing is a surprise to him.

There is very little messaging for a modern film. Even though it can get a bit dark, it's really a pretty wholesome movie, with a nice focus on parenthood. That's about as much as I can say without spoiling things. It's better not to know too much going in. The movie has a lot going on but manages to juggle it really well. ^-^
