I've seen a couple independent psychological thrillers with Toby Jones as lead and they've all been at least OK. This one is a nice homage to giallo films and is exactly as I'd remembered. Whereas a film like The Strange Colour of Your Body's Tears is a neo-giallo, Berberian Sound Studio (as the name suggests) takes place in the mix allowing you to hear the film's dialogue and see how the sound effects are created and mixed for what happens onscreen--which you never see, but is gruesome and unsettling in its own right. And, of course, things go south from there.

Troy 2004 movie
I liked this, but I like big historical epics. I read a comic book version once & found it fairly similar. I like how the movie starts at the beginning of the story & goes all the way to the end. The actual book is just the middle part. The thing I like about this story is that you’re not really cheering for one side or the other. There’s characters you like & don’t like on both sides. I recommend this if you like war stories.
I give it a 5/5

Justice League vs Teen Titans cartoon movie
I didn’t really like it. I just thought it was boring. This was my introduction to Damian Wayne as Robin & I found him an unlikable brat. I wonder if he’s always like that? I also couldn’t get invested in the Raven / Trigon story. This movie was also my introduction to Blue Beetle & I found him interesting
3/5

I watched an NHL hockey game, Kings/Ducks. Kings won

There was this YouTuber I used to watch. She no longer produces content on her main channel, but she was a vlog channel. I thought I would see what's new. Her husband left her last month. She struggles with a personality disorder and experienced abuse as a minor. She still practices witchcraft though...

The Alvin & the chipmunks movie
This is my 3rd time watching it. I was listening to a lot of their older music & it made me want to watch the movie. I like it overall, there’s some good jokes, but I got a bit bored in the middle.
I’d give it a 3.5/5 but I don’t do halfs. 4 seems too high so I’m actually going to round down to a 3. Overall, you can watch it if you have an hour & a half to waste.
3/5

Green Lantern Ryan Reynolds movie
This is supposedly really bad. I don’t understand why people don’t like it? It was a little cheesy in some places but I’ve seen a LOT worse superhero movies. It seemed comic accurate & wasn’t boring & those are what I’m looking for in superhero movies. It was great seeing Green Lantern on the ‘big screen’ for the first time.
I think some of the criticism is because Green Lantern just isn’t that interesting in general. He’s a cool concept but not much character or complexity to him. That’s how I view him in other things he’s in.
So I recommend this if you like superhero movies. Don’t believe the criticism. That being said, it’s still a 3/5 movie, but a good 3.
3/5

Run
This is a Hulu movie based off criminal cases where doctors prescribe medications to treat a sick child, only for the mother to be pretending the child is sick & the medications are in fact harming the child. A famous example is the Gypsy Rose case.
When I found out this movie was an example of those cases, but not an adaptation of the Gypsy Rose case, at first I was hesitant because I thought how can you beat the strangeness of the Gypsy Rose case. But I wasn’t disappointed! Because I didn’t know this story this movie was saying. So it keeps twisting & turning. It’s very well done, very suspenseful, exactly the kind of movie I was looking for, on the edge of my seat. Go Chloe! You rock!
The only downside I can think of is there isn’t a lot of immidiate backstory. How has Chloe been raised outside of her schoolwork & going to the movies? Before the events of the movie, does she have a ‘best friend’ relationship with her mom, or is it more distant?
I highly recommend this if you like true crime type stories or thriller/suspense movies.
5/5

Yu-Gi-Oh Season 2

It took me a while but I finally finished it. The duels are the only thing worth watching. The actual story is boring & really is ‘play a card game to save the world’. A lot of each episode is padding/filler, where the dialogue just repeats stuff you already know. But the duels are great. 2 that stand out are Yugi’s Dark Magician vs Dark Magician duel, & Kaiba’s duel vs Ishizu. I also liked the one where the duelist outdecks himself due to being stuck in a loop with his God Monster & trap & effect that force him to keep drawing until he’s out of cards.
So I’m not sure how interested I am in Season 3. If I do watch it, I’m going to fastforward thru the story & dialogue as much as I can to get the duels & focus on the duels.

I also watched a college hockey game.

Justice League Dark
I was a little bored with this. This is my first introduction to Constantine & I just found him uninteresting. This was my introduction to Deadman too, I found him funny & want to see him in more stuff. I thought the ending fight was the best part of the movie. I especially liked when they have to fight the Justice League.
I recommend this only if you’re pretty familiar w/ DC and/or are trying to watch the animated movies
3/5

The Killing Joke
This was a rewatch b/c it’s in the DVD bundle I have. It really is 2 movies stuck together – Batgirl & Batman, & Batman & the Joker. I found the change in plot less jarring but it’s still obvious it’s there.
3/5

Pokemon: Secrets of the Jungle (the Zarude movie)
I’m a big Pokemon fan & it’s been a whole since I”ve seen one of the movies. This one’s okay. It combines Tarzan & Avatar. Not much really to say about it. I liked the part where they’re tossing Pikachu around so he can Iron Tail the mech. The animation’s really good for a Pokemon movie. I also thought the Celebi lore working behind-the-scenes was a great addition & added a sense of mystery & broader scope.
So this is a mid-tier Pokemon movie. I just found it a bit too similar to Celebi’s main movie.

I finished Andor.
A show about the Rebellion first getting started with the Empire at the height of its power should be exciting & full of intrigue, full of betrayal & surprises, but this is a drag.
But I did like the political focus, something that’s been missing from Disney SW.
I really like how there’s ‘heroes’ on the Imperial side. The Imperials are probably more interesting than Cassian!
The Cassian stuff itself was good, until he got to this prison planet, & I just wanted to fast forward those scenes. Very boring & predictable.
I like how it didn’t go for pure nostalgia like a lot of Disney SW has done.
I’ll rate it below Book of Boba Fett & The Mandalorian Seasons 1 & 2. Mando Season 2 is my favorite so far.
Overall it was fine. I had heard it got really good in the later episodes but it never really took off for me. It was a ittle too-slow paced & sometimes too many characters.
If you’re not a SW fan you won’t like it. If you are a SW fan & don’t mind the politics of SW, give it a try.

I finished the Visions Star Wars anime series. Most episodes were pretty good. I liked how they covered all historical SW eras. Only problem was a lot of the episodes were ‘Jedi arrives on planet, fights Dark Side user at end, over’. A little more variety would be good. I recommend this if even if you are a casual SW fan.

I finished Season 1 of the TV show Monk. Fantastic show. As someone who has a history of anxiety, I found him very relatable. I like how the show has the perfect mix of humor & drama. It’s very well done, perfect pacing. The cases are very creative.

Batman vs TMNT cartoon movie
I wasn’t expecting to like this, & I’m not as familiar w/ the TMNT, but I found this movie pretty fun. The humor is good & so is the action. It’s pretty graphic for a cartoon movie! The best part of the movie is when the Batman villians are changed to monsters. That should’ve been the ending battle! I also liked the car chase!
A couple negatives: I found Ras & Shredder not as interesting as the heroes, & Robin & Batgirl thrown in seemed too much. S/h left Robin out & just gone w/ Batgirl.
So I recommend this if you like Batman or TMNT. If you don’t like either, you won’t be as interested.
4/5

Ironman vs Hulk cartoon movie
I liked how the action was easy to follow. It wasn’t incredibly choppy & quick like today’s movies. That’s really needed in a movie that focuses on action like this one. There isn’t much story here, & I like a little more story. I recommend this if you’re more of a fan of the comic books, TV shows, & MCU movies.
3/5

Let There Be Light
This is a Christian movie where a famous atheist converts. It follows the Christian movie formula pretty closely. He’s world-famous, but after he converts, we don’t really see the repercussions of his conversion on a global stage. He also converts pretty quickly. I’d have liked to see more how the atheist community reacts to his conversion. I recommend this if you like Christian drama movies.
