Just finished "From the Maccabees to the Mishnah" by Shaye J.D. Cohen and "Who Wrote the Bible" by Richard Friedman. I'm now reading "The Heavenly Man: The Remarkable True Story of Chinese Christian Brother Yun" by Brother Yun (with Paul Hattaway).

I always considered myself an avid reader, but my Pastor, who has read as many as 100 books in a year, is encouraging me to read more.

I ran across this and thought it was a very interesting post! I would like to ask for suggestions on a good commentary for the book of Titus... I have been writing about what the Lord is teaching me through this passage of scripture. Does anyone have any recommendations? You can read what I wrote to further make your decision on what type of book will help me gain a deeper knowledge.

Feel free to leave a comment too if you like. I started this blog to help me grow deeper in Him and also help others to do the same. I would like input about the thoughts presented. All glory and honor to His name!
Thanks, John

I would be careful reading his book and listening to his sermons...he is a mid Acts Dispensationalist.

And so am I. After having read and studying through the Bible twice and started a third time I realized that all of the Old Testament, the Four Gosples, and the first half of the book of Acts, God was dealing with His Chosen People. The Gentiles were left out. They had no God. They were without any promises, and no hope in this world. The only thing that they could do, is come to the Nation of Israel and ask them for the blessings of their God and become a proselyte.
Jesus was a fulfilling the prophesies that were to the Nation of Israel. Prophesied by all the Prophets from Samuel and all those that followed after. So when He came He was to fulfill all the Law and the Prophets. And He did. All of that was to, for, and about the Nation of Israel only. For I am not come but unto the lost sheep of the House of Israel.
Jesus never taught the Gospel of Grace, the Mystery that He revealed to the Apostle Paul. His Deciples didn't know any thing about the Mystery. Jesus taught The Kingdom of Heaven is at hand, Mat 3:2, 4:17, 10:7 and The Gospel of the Kingdom, Mat 4:23, 9:35, 24:14, Mar 1:14-15.
Jesus revealed the Mystery to the Apostle Paul only. The Gosple that Paul preached was about all the things that Jesus accomplished when He died on the Cross. Nowhere in the Bible can you find the accomplishments that Jesus did except in the Letters of Paul. And Paul's gospel didn't get started until mid Acts.
The Chosen Apostles, on the Day of Pentecost did not start the Church the Body of Christ. That was a part of the Mystery hid in the mind of God until it was revealed to the Apostle Paul. The Church on the day of Pentecost was the Kingdom Church. They were preaching the Kingdom message. The only message that they knew. The only message that Jesus preached and taught them.
So yes I am a mid Acts Dispensationalist. But I attend a Baptist Church, I study the whole Bible. We all live in the age of Grace until the fullness of the Gentiles be come in. We all need to be good ambassadors for Christ. And we can't be if we don't know the whole truth of God's Word. So diligently study all the letters of Paul, in consideration of all the other books of the Bible and you will see that there is a difference in the Gosples. We can't do the things that God gave to the Nation of Israel, they have been set aside until a later date.

May God bless all of you.
