As said above, usually when I hear a song I like, the last think I’m doing is really reading into the lyrics. If its absolutely profane and degrading to God, then I will turn it off.

A lot of the “angrier” music out there as helped me though some difficult times. For me, a lot of times it’s therapy. I guess unfortunately, when I’m in a crappy mood, praise and worship music doesn’t always cut it. I think that if the music is putting negative thoughts in your head and causing you to say… oh, get the urge to hurt someone, then yeah.. You probably shouldn’t be listening to it. But what so many people don’t see is that is that for some people, it provides a release and keeps them from wanting to hurt someone. I almost consider some of the music to be a gift from God at times. Its something that can relate to me at a time when I might feel no one else can

And as far as satanic music goes- In my opinion, I think most of it is fake. I think it strikes interest in some people and they end up buying it; though I don’t doubt that some of it is genuine.

Hi, I am new hear, in fact this is my first post. I came to the music section of this forum to get some guidance and opinions of bands/music that should rather be avoided by children of God.

I went through some of the threads, and man, most people on here are pretty misguided and even blatantly coy about bands they listen to and bands that are "ok" to listen to. If I didn't look up a few times to see that I am actually on christianforums.com, I would not have believed it. Is this site and its people for real?

People condoning and listening to bands like Metallica,Slayer,ACDC,Iron Maiden,Venom etc, and thinking it's OK???

Saying things like OH, they just PRETEND to be satanic, their doing it for sensasionalism, or OH, the only have a few blaspemous songs, nothing to worry about, or OH they just have evil lyric, the music is really OK.

What are you people thinking?? YOU ARE OPENING A DOOR if you continue to listen to this. Burn it, get rid of it. Do you really things Jesus would like you to listen to Sisters of Mercy or Megadeth or Black Sabbath?

Come on, or am I missing something? Please tell me?

Having said that, where could I find a site were people have done some research into good/evil secular bands/music?

i'm going to laugh so hard if you get to heaven and find jesus listening to Megadeath.

God has blessed me with an ignorance of the lyrics. Being a musician, it seems I hear the lyrics as musical notes and I don't hear the actual words at all. So I personally don't have this problem.

I really think this is more of a personal choice though.

If a person is weak, then they should shy away from it, and protect their soul.

I don't agree that music, in and of itself, is dangerous. No matter the lyrics. But I do believe it can be dangerous. Which is a personal choice.

If a person is strong, and can stand up to this kind of negative influence, then they shouldn't worry about it. After all, the music belongs to God, no matter what they sing.

And they have an opportunity to witness to the people who need it most, at the time that they need it most.

The strong ones amongst us really need to be out in the midst of the sinners. Just planting seeds. This is a hard concept for new Christians to get. We don't need to stand there and convince a sinner that they need to change. As a matter of fact, this can be counter productive. Our job is to plant the seeds. The Holy Spirit takes over from there and sprouts that seed FOR YOU. Because he knows precisely what that person needs to hear.

So, I find that just a general knowledge that I'm a Christian along with them seeing that I appear to be a cool guy, and that I don't seem to be preaching to everybody. Poses the thought. That ain't so bad. BLAM.... seed planted.

In Christ's day, the "Hells Angels" of that day were fishermen. So raucous was this group of men that the stigma of crazy sailors still persists to this day.

Where did Jesus go to get his apostles?

Find it a little funny that anyone would be so general, I think they simply listed a few metal bands and left it.

The members of both Black Sabbath (outside of Ozzy, who prefers not the mention religious belief at all, 'cuz i don't think he even knows sometimes, tbh) and Megadeth (as far as I know anyway) are all Christian. As are at least some members of the other bands mentioned.

I find little issue with listening to worldly music. That is the majority of music, and the greatest majority of talented musicians (as well as not so talented ones, but whatever).

I'm not an atheist because I listen to Green Day, and I don't listen to Green Day because I'm an atheist. As several others have said, some people need music that fits every mood. Christian music is so *cheery* all the time, it's like eating cake for every meal. Sometimes I need to hear "Give me Novocaine" (Green Day) and sometimes I need to hear something a little lighter like "Can't Take My Eyes Off of You". I think that applies to most Christians, too, whether they admit it or not.

Banarp: That is a rather simplistic mentality you have of music. The artists you listed are mostly quite talented, despite containing the message YOU prefer not to hear (which, by the way, are generally not "anti-Christian" as you seem to be interpreting). If you are offended by secular music, it would probably be a reasonable decision to not enter thread labeled Secular Music, as you will most likely come out of it disappointed.

And, like someone said earlier, no one here needs to justify their preferences for you.
