I was watching a doco on Bob Dylan following the history of Folk music. They mentioned the Basement tapes. I had heard of these recordings before when Dylan first became electric and his fans were upset that he was selling out to rock. So he took a step back and didn't do any touring and had a break.

It was during this time around 1975 that he got together with what would later become 'The Band' a music group in their own right after Dylan went solo and started touring again.

But most people did not know of this period with the Band as they never wanted to release the songs. It was more or less a jam session recorded on acetone tapes.

I had heard some of the songs like 'I shall be free' and 'The Mighty Quin' which Manfred Man made a hit out of. But in having a good listen I did not realise their value to early music especially Americana music.

I reckon if Dylan stayed with the Band they would have been near as good as the Beatles. Actually more like the Stones. Dylan sounds very different. It was said that Dylan was upset at his fans booing him for going electric so he decided to just play what he wanted without the scrutiny. As a result we see a potential different Dylan as a part of a great band in itsel. Almost a supergroup.
A modest correction... Dylan first took The Hawks (their original name) as his touring band in 1965. They most famously backed him on his 1966 world tour that featured confrontations with the audience during electric set. (Odd, I always thought given that the hard driving "Highway 61 Revisited" album came out the year before.) After that tour and a motorcycle crash, Dylan spent early 1967 with The Band at their home in Woodstock, NY (yes, that Woodstock) where the various Basement Tapes songs were written and some were recorded. They parted ways, but got back together to record Dylan's "Planet Waves" album (Forever Young, Hazel, ...) and a subsequent tour.

There were other lyrics Dylan wrote but did not record. A group of musicians came together to write music for the lyrics and recorded the songs. This is my favorite of the group:

Many years ago I bought a 2nd hand car and found a cassette in it by the Kelly family. That set me on a journey of discovery of their music especially that of Paddy Kelly (Patrick Michael Kelly). I followed his journey in the Kelly family where they became one of Europes biggest acts even rivelling the Beatles though most people did not know of them in my country.

I loved all sorts of music and I had never heard of them nor would I have ever thought of buying their music. But Fate perhaps led me to them and this began my journey of discovery. I remember I use to play their music to my friends and they would be saying who the hell is this. I have never heard of them lol.

Basically what sparked my interest was the voices and harmonies like a chior. But also their strange voices which were a mixture of accents but mainly a Irish I think. They had travelled the world and spoke several languages. But it was the combination of 9 or 10 singing siblings in harmony that was so powerful.

Paddy (Patrick Michael Kelly) is the young guy with long hair mostly out front singing solo. But they all have turns singing. They can also play multiple instruments. Their dad was big on making them learn music and got them performing on streets and at festivals when they were young.

The first song comes off the album I found which I think was their most sucessful album called 'Almost Heaven'. This album has many great songs though a little dated now as its from the 90's.

The Kelly Family held stadium sized concerts in Europe in the 90's gaining similar popularity as the Beatles.

Then it all changed around 2003 Paddy was at a crossroads in his life and joined the priesthood and monestary. But he didn't stop his music.

He left the priesthood around 2011 and began his solo career and I am still discovering his music thanks to a chance discovery in a car 24 years ago.

What else am I going to ponder when approaching All Hallow's Eve?

Impellitteri - Do You Think I'm Mad? (2018)
Wow Phill I didn't realize you are a heavy metal fan. They sound a bit like Black Sabbath. I am not so much in to metal but more main stream rock even if its heavier like ACDC and Led Zeplin I don't mind it.

Speaking of Led Zeplin I came across this band who sounds a lot like them named Gretta Van Fleet. In fact they sounded so much like Zeplin that they have worked on trying to make themselves less like Zeplin.

Here is a couple of songs from their earlier days when they really did sound like Led Zeplin and a recent song where they still have Zeplin's sound but its way different.

In fact I was trying to see if they were Christians because their recent music is very symbolic of God or a God.

Oh yes, I'm a metal fan, but for the most part, my fandom is fairly selective and I tend to listen to Christian metal about 90% of the time that I listen to metal.

I havn't kept up with Christian metal. The only ones I am familiar with are Stryper and Petra. If you could call Petra heavy metal.

This is one of my favorite speeches from Shakespeare's plays.
On October 25, 1415, a small English army comprised mostly of foot soldiers faced a much larger French army comprised most of heavy armored cavalry. The English, under King Henry V, would win the day against the odds.

Happy Halloween, scary people!!
Seriously. some of y'all are scary,

I can remember the 6th grade, sitting in the bleachers for some school function with this song blaring through the Walkman. The world and its absurdity were gone. It was definitely a prescient moment of my tendency. lol

Underneath the skin and jewelry
Hidden in her words and eyes
Is a wall that's cold and ugly
And she's scared as hell

Trembling at the thought of feeling
Wide awake and keeping distance
Nothing seems to penetrate her
'Cause she's scared as hell

I am, frightened too
I am, frightened!

As Halloween has been mentioned it reminded me of an Aussie song by Skyhooks back in the 70's called Horror movie lol. Its a bit outdated but the music was good and fun when Glam rock was all the rage.

Then I thought of
