  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

YouTube - Clarence 'Tom' Ashley - The Coo Coo Bird

YouTube - Oxycontin Blues by Steve Earle

The lyrics are as follows:

Well my daddy worked in the coal mine
Till the company shut it down
Then he sat around and drank hisself blind
Till we put him back underground
Now nothin grows on this mountain
And whats a poor boy to do?
Except to wander these hills forgotten
With the oxycontin blues

Well I never cared much for whiskey
Cause it only made daddy mean
Wrapped a little bit tight they tell me
For the methamphetamine
Then my cousin come up from Knoxville
And he taught me a thing or two
Now Im headed nowhere but downhill
With the oxycontin blues

Got a dollar bill in my pocket
Got a half a tank in my truck
Im gonna go and pawn grandmas locket
Hell, maybe itll change my luck
Aint nothin gonna be right no how
Cause I know I cant ever lose
This devil thats draggin me down
And the oxycontin blues

If you're directing your question at me, that's a Glock 30SF in .45 ACP. I have a Sig in .40 S&W, a model P239, but I'm not currently using that as my avatar. I'm sort of a collector.

Thanks for the reply - I just kept looking at it and couldn't figure it out. I thought it might be a 45 too but wasn't sure. Pictures are tough - if I was holding it in my hand I could identify it immediately. I carry a Sig 40 for work - and the pic does look similar but not quite the same. I wish I could carry the Glock 45 - used to be able to 20 years ago... It is a much better weapon imo...

Nice pistol! Ive been thinking about buying the same gun but somewhere along the way I've caught the Colt 1911 style bug. I've been browsing gunbroker.com and a few other sites trying to find the best prices. The Colts, Kimbers, etc are a little pricey for my blood, I'm thinking of something like a Springfield Loaded, Taurus or even Rock Island Armory .45's in 1911 full frame style.

I may end up going with Glock30 full frame after all is said and done.:)

The last gun I bought, just before Christmas, was a Colt Commander 1911. It wasn't even on my gun wish list but once I got it in my hands, I knew I had to have it. I was really looking for a CZ 75B Compact 9mm. My boss has a Kimber that sort of blew up on him. It needs some serious warranty work. I had a Springfield Armory 1911A1 full size .45, 100% reliable. But in a moment of mental and fiscal weakness, used it as a trade-in for a Sig P220. I love the Sig but miss the S/A except for its GI sights. My eyes are too old. You can't go wrong with Springfield Armory.

Glocks and Sigs are my favorite handguns. The Sig P229 in .40 is definitely on my wish list, but I'm looking for a used one in good condition without the accessory rail. I mostly carry a Glock 27 in .40 when not at work. My wife either carries her own Glock 27 in .40 or her Walther PPK/S in .380. We both have lifetime concealed carry permits.

Thank you for your input, appreciate the recommendation for the Springfield Armory 1911A1. I've also had a CCW permit forever but seldom carry anywhere, go figure. I like to have the handguns as collector items and home protection and enjoy shooting at the local range.
