  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What are you listening to?

Geez what I don't get is why are you even defending these guys~if you wanna defend metal at least pick out a good band like Priest or Sabbath:p

Time to blow your mind, Jim. Nicko McBrain, who is the drummer for Iron Maiden, is a born-again Christian. I like their music. I look beyond things like one song, from one CD from 26 years ago and evaluate their musical catalog as a whole. I don't know call me silly or if you wanna be accurate, educated. Your choice. You do know Rob Halford, the singer of Judas Priest is a practicing homosexual right? How is that okay to Christians? There's plenty of references to things Satanic in Judas Priest's lyrics too. So why are they okay? And Black Sabbath? The name alone should be offensive to Christians. Fact is, I like all these bands. I don't let little things like other people's opinions dictate who I can and can't listen to as a Christian.

Imperialism and tea, Jimminy. Put the 2 together and out comes badness. Ehh, we get by. The queen's good for a laugh sometimes. Wears a funny hat, you see.

Coolio :)

I don't think it's "coolio" at all. I think it stinks that certain people have to censor themselves in a Christian forum, because certain other people don't like what they're into. But hey. Them's the breaks.

Gee, I thought this thread was to share with each other what we were listening to and learn about each other. Kind of like a fellowship thread. But now I see that's not true. It's only a "fellowship" thread as long as some people in this thread like or approve of what other people are posting. When some people read or see something they don't like, then they're free to call the things other people like "vile and Satanic", all the while not having to back up any of their claims. Kind of a free pass to flaming isn't it? I'm so not surprised. I know I'll definitely think twice about being open and honest in this forum in the future.

You'll have to learn when I'm joking dude~hence the:p at the end of the sentence.

Enjoy your music~I just sort of figured you to be more of a Poison/Cinderella sorta guy (see, again I'm just kiddin' here:p)

Music can be an especially sensitive subject..

I liked them too, back in the 80's when glam metal, ruined metal. ^_^

Do you or have you listened to any of those bands? I see Mortification is on that list and is listed as Death Metal. How can death metal be considered Christian?
Going through that list, I only know two of the bands listed, Demon Hunter and Stryper. But that gives me lots and lots of new stuff to check out!

I'm not quite sure how death metal could be Christian, and I don't vouch for all the bands on the list being really Christian. It is Wikipedia after all.

Ah, Stryper. The original Bible thumpers. I heard that if you went to a Stryper concert, they'd actually throw Bibles out into the crowd. Hope they were paperbacks. Hey! Maybe that's how Jim thumped his melon. Jim, were you at a Stryper concert recently? ^_^

The first time I heard Christian metal, when I was a teenager, the person playing it felt he had to point out, "Believe it or not, that's Christian music." I hadn't said a word. I wonder why he felt the need to clarify it. Shouldn't the fact that something is Christian be self-evident?

Even so young, I wondered what difference it made whether the lyrics are Christian or not, if I still can't understand them. I can't hear words that are being screamed at me, no matter what those words are.

I think he felt the need to clarify because there is an assumption among Christians that certain forms of music are "of the devil." Heavy Metal is always "music of the devil," where Christians are concerned. If music or a song is Christian, it should be evident in the lyrics. Sadly, a lot of Christians music today, doesn't meet that criteria. The presence of Jesus is implied rather than explicity stated.

:D...well I think some more accurate translations have that somewhere in the NT but I'd have to research it some more.

Maybe Zec this would be a good subject for another thread:thumbsup:

oh my typos... that was SUPPOSED to say, will you BE my nabor.

oy.
Anyhooooooooo

hey, don't be Dissin' GLAM METAL.

*hands on hips*

And why not? What's metal about a power ballad? In the late 80's if you didn't have a power ballad on your "metal" record, you wouldn't get air play on the radio. It was like, if you had big hair in the 80's you were glam metal. Skid Row was put into that category and there was one band that never should have been. I have spoken, therefore it is so. ^_^

Nah, I'm guessing such a thread wouldn't last too long in here. There seems to be a general consensus among Christians on this one. But if you wanna start one go ahead. I might come by and check it out.

A chick who doesn't like power ballads? Get outta here! LOL Power ballads actually hurt some metal artists. Extreme is a good example. Their song, More Than Words, was a huge hit. But when people heard their other songs, they didn't know they were listening to Extreme.
