  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What are you listening to?

Those charming album covers didn't help...:D

I'm just sayin...^_^

EDIT NOTE TO ZEC: see I pulled those album covers they were so freaky..

Which covers were they? I think the covers were great because they were so unique. There was no way you could mistake Iron Maiden for another group, because there was no other group I knew of, that had anything like that.

I'm sure it is~I always thought Nazareth's "Hair of the Dog" was misunderstoond too...

In what way do you think Hair of the Dog by Nazareth has been misunderstood? I've never heard this song, but I did read the lyrics earlier tonight. I wouldn't say this is a good song to compare to Number of the Beast since Nazareth saw fit to use profanity in this song, whereas in Iron Maiden's song there is no profanity. In the intro to the song, there is actually a combining of two scriptures from the Bible. Rev. 12:12 & 13:18. The intro goes, IIRC, 'Woe to you of earth and sea. For the devil sends the beast with wrath because he knows the time is short. Let him who hath understanding reckon the number of the beast. For it is a human number. Its number is six-hundred and sixty-six.'

This can't go on I must inform the Lord
Can this still be real or just some crazy dream?
but I feel drawn towards the chanting hordes
seem to mesmerise...can't avoid their eyes
666 the Number of the Beast
666 the one for you and me

I'm coming back I will return
And I'll possess your body and I'll make you burn
I'll have the fire I'll have the force
I'll have the power to make my evil take its course

pretty creepy stuff dude but I hey I used to own a W.A.S.P. album years ago~youth.....^_^

Jim if you're going to post the lyrics, do us all a favor and post ALL the lyrics not just the ones you don't like.

Woe to You Oh Earth and Sea
for the Devil sends the beast with wrath
because he knows the time is short
Let him who hath understanding
reckon the number of the beast
for it is a human number
its number is six hundred and sixty six.

I lived alone my mind was blank
I needed time to think to get the memories from my mind

What did I see? Could I believe? That what I saw
that night was real and not just fantasy

Just what I saw in my old dreams were they
reflections of my warped mind staring back at me?

'Cause in my dreams it's always there the evil face that twists my mind
and brings me to despair

Night was black was no use holding back
'Cause I just had to see was someone watching me
In the mist dark figures move and twist
was all this for real or just some kind of hell
666 the Number of the Beast
Hell and fire was spawned to be released

Torches blazed and sacred chants were phrased
as they start to cry hands held to the sky
In the night the fires are burning bright
the ritual has begun Satan's work is done
666 the Number of the Beast
Sacrifice is going on tonight

This can't go on I must inform the Lord
Can this still be real or just some crazy dream?
but I feel drawn towards the chanting hordes
seem to mesmerise...can't avoid their eyes
666 the Number of the Beast
666 the one for you and me

I'm coming back I will return
And I'll possess your body and I'll make you burn
I'll have the fire I'll have the force
I'll have the power to make my evil take its course

But you still haven't answered my question. How was Hair of the Dog by Nazareth misunderstood? I mean if you were going to draw a comparison between that song by Nazareth with something comprable from Iron Maiden, you should have gone with 22 Acacia Avenue from the same album.

Plus, you can see from the lyrics that the person who witnessed this event is not sure if it was real or a dream. This song has always been blasted by Christians for supposedly being a promotion of Satanism by Iron Maiden and from these lyrics, such a statement can not be supported, since the person the song is about is not even sure this ritual even took place.

Guess I punched a button:D

Yeah and it will continue to be blasted and rightfully so by the Church...the artwork + the lyrics are enough to have it banned in my house. The reference to Nazareth was in jest-another tune banned in my house because of bad content-thought maybe you'd get it ;) I would have neither because it is not becoming to the image we are to have as Christians.

That album art, along with "Piece of Mind" and "Killers", (which were the three I removed) are simply the kinds of images, lifestyle and music our death/supernaturally infatuated kids suck down. Looks tame today compared to whatever freakshow artists are now popular but still carrying the banner.

Hardly, I've been dealing with this issue for years. There's nothing new here. You posted lyrics out of context. I provided all the lyrics so people could read for themselves.

That's fine. I have no problem with that.

Who decides what the "Christian" image is? Certainly not just you. :) We've agreed in another thread that those Christian t-shirts that rip off companies or products such as Gold's Gym, Subway and although this one was not posted, Reeses, are not great for Christians to wear either. So, what's the Christian image look like? I mean let's remember Christianity is not a "look" it's a lived-out faith.

Okay. What's the "lifestyle" of that art? I mean the character of "Eddie" isn't even a creation of Iron Maiden. That work belongs to Derek Riggs who had it in his art portfolio as an example of the kind of art he could make and the character's name was originally "Electric Matthew." Don't ask me why. I have no idea.

Hey, if this thread could avoid becoming one with a load of satanic lyrics posted on it, that'd be neato :)

I agree with you, Jimminy. Those lyrics are *vile*.

Gee, I thought this thread was to share with each other what we were listening to and learn about each other. Kind of like a fellowship thread. But now I see that's not true. It's only a "fellowship" thread as long as some people in this thread like or approve of what other people are posting. When some people read or see something they don't like, then they're free to call the things other people like "vile and Satanic", all the while not having to back up any of their claims. Kind of a free pass to flaming isn't it? I'm so not surprised. I know I'll definitely think twice about being open and honest in this forum in the future.

It's not just the Brits Jim. Queensryche and Marilyn Manson are both from the U.S.A. And let's not forget our down under pals AC/DC. :D

Yeah and if we could avoid ripping apart the likes of others, that'd be just neato and oh so swell too. It's funny. I'm sure I could find something to complain about in some of the songs posted. But I just let people be who they are. Different strokes I guess.

Hi!

Just wanted to jump in and generally identify with the metalheads, without getting involved in Zec's & Jim's brouhaha. :p

Btw, here's a list of Christian metal bands. I don't know how many of them are any good, but anyway...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Christian_metal_bandshttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Christian_metal_bandshttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Christian_metal_bandshttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Christian_metal_bands

Do you or have you listened to any of those bands? I see Mortification is on that list and is listed as Death Metal. How can death metal be considered Christian?

Imperialism and tea, Jimminy. Put the 2 together and out comes badness. Ehh, we get by. The queen's good for a laugh sometimes. Wears a funny hat, you see.
