  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What are you doing while you're waiting?

So, I'm due in 10 days. And I'm going CRAZY waiting for this baby to come. The dr could possible induce at the end of the week if I'm dialated, but after being completely closed the last 2 times he checked - I'm not getting my hopes up.

My question is... what are you in the final days of your pregnancy doing while you're waiting for labor? I personally am losing my mind! I sleep a lot, but you can only sleep so much when you already have a 2 year old you're chasing around. :) - And I'm so big, there's not much I can do around the house. And everything is already packed and ready for the baby to come. So - I really have nothing to do! I just thought I'd see what others are doing while they're waiting to go into labor... Thanks.

LOL - actually... been doing that every night. Had to make up for being restricted for a few months! LOL! But it doesn't seem to be working! I'm going to be putting my son down for a nap soon, and then I'll take one - so that should take up a few hours. But I'm going crazy!

Is there some medical reason that the Dr feels you should be induced?

Things you could try are:
Rasberry leaf tea (softens and tones the cervix)
Evening Primrose Capsules (5 or six inserted deep into the vagina, softens the cervix)
Sex with orgasum (causes the uterus to contract and sperm softens the cervix)
Spicy food (causes the intestines around the uterus to get to work and causes some contractions)
Castor oil - causes contractions. (but is very nasty)

The baby is very large - and I ripped all the way with my son. And the boys in my husbands family are all really big with HUGE heads! LOL... The dr doesn't want to risk c-section. So, if I'm dialated he's wanting to do it. He said he wants me at least 2cm before he'll do the cervidel (which is what they did with my son). And the cervidel worked so fast that pitocin was never needed. They gave me the cervidel at 6pm, contractions started between 9-10pm and my son was born at 2:11am.

Have you gotten the urge to clean alot? I know I got that urge a few days before I had both my kids. I was on my feet alot and doing things like scrubbing the bath tub and kitchen sink, reorganizing closets. With my first, my husband and I helped at a Christmas banquet and I helped cook and serve food and for being a week before my due date, I was really active and stood on my feet for about 4 hours straight. Well I had an appt. the next day and found out I was 4 cm dilated and I had my son that evening. So maybe do some spring cleaning, or baking. That takes up time and you get alot accomplished.

So, I went to the dr to be checked again yesterday. And I am still not dialated... not to anything! I am 39 weeks as of today. This is getting ridiculous! I feel like I want to unzip my body and walk out! I was 6 days late with my son and had to be coaxed into labor with Cervidel... I hope I'm not overdue with this one too! I think I might scream!

Yes, you could cook ahead and put things in freezer safe containers.
 Excellent suggestion. It will keep you busy for now and will be a real life saver after the baby is here.

Try to be patient. Easier said than done, I know. :) Remember a due date is only an estimation of when baby will be born. There is this mentality that if we are past the due date the baby is late and we are overdue, but that is really not the case. Baby will be ready when the time is right.

Did you know that the average day of delivery for healthy first time mothers is 8 days past the "due date," and with subsequent pregnancies the average delivery date is 3 days after? So your first was actually born a couple days ahead of the average. :)

You could always try acupuncture if you are feeling really impatient right now. It's supposed to be quite effective for inducing labor and it doesn't carry the risk of bad side effects that medical induction methods do.

Hope your little one is here soon!

I agree. Not dialated at 39 weeks is perfectly normal. The baby knows when it is time. I will never let them push me into labor unless absolutely necessary because I think its better for the body naturally.

I tried all this stuff with my last pregnancy, and baby was still a week late!

I'll probably still use evening primrose and raspberry leaf tea again in the last month of this pregnancy. My cervix did soften and begin to efface ahead of time, which has never happened with my other pregnancies. But one note... evening primrose doesn't work directly, but indirectly. It contains a substance that, after digestion, aids in building one of the hormones that ready the cervix... thus, it is more effective if you take it orally than using it vaginally.

Gee, I'm six months along and already going crazy with impatience.

Oh yeah, and rumor has it that eggplant helps. :)
