  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I have had a rotten day thus far - chiefly due to the fact that I was in a car accident this morning on the way to work. I'm fine, but my car is a bit banged up and don't know how much it'll cost to fix, but it's insured. To cut a long story short, I was on the M4 in Sydney's west on a slightly damp road, someone in front of me braked suddenly (I wasn't tailgating or anything but was probably too close for the conditions that were around) and my brakes pretty much failed on me. Ended up hitting the person in front - not much damage to his car, but mine doesn't look at all pretty. Driveable, so it meant that according to the road rules the accident doesn't need to be investigated by police (even though there were a couple there). And we got all the particulars needed to go forth with insurance claims and such. But I'm in a very unhappy mood - pretty much with myself, because I've missed out on working a shift that would have been quite helpful for my financial situation. Ah, well...:sigh:

Kristian, I work with ODOT (transportation) dealing with crash reports. I can tell you that at least 85% of the crashes I've read in the DMV reports are mostly rear-end crashes due to drivers following too close. T-bones comes in second after that.

I just witnessed one (my first) about 6 days ago; that poor girl wasn't paying attention and ran into the van. I followed them to make sure they're ok. One thing to be clear: just because you're ok that day, you won't be in the next 2-3 days. the injuries doesn't show up for a few days after the crash. Just hope that you won't end up with a whiplash!

I'm sorry that you had a bad day...! At least you're here and you're ok! That's all that matters. :)

I am aware of the fact that injuries can be a bit residual, Lori - my left shoulder is aching slightly and my neck is a bit too. I can't remember the impact speed, but my seat's headrest is set up fairly high, so in terms of whiplash I think I'll be okay. Thanks for your concern and advice

Sorry to hear about your acco KristianJ. Was it near Greystanes? I heard on the radio about a prang near greystanes on the morning traffic report.

Yup, that was the one...apparently 2GB's traffic people were saying there was a motorcycle involved, but there certainly wasn't...

Hehehe...only a couple of hundred metres away from my bingle...:D Ah, well...I actually listened in to the Triple M traffic report about 10 mins after mine and it was mentioned that the accident had "ruefully interrupted" (or words to that effect) any smooth running on the M4 between Roper Rd and the Cumberland Hwy ^_^ What a choice of words...

Anyways, I went down with my dad to the smash repairers and the car will be fixed within a week or so. A bit pricey but insurance will cover everything except the excess which is part of the policy.

well today i went to the doctors.. after waiting for nearly 2 hours to be seen it turns out i have a strained upper back.. so he gave me some anti inflammatories (non-steroidal) and said take one every 12hours... and i also have tomorrow off of work :) and if it doesnt get better by tomorrow afternoon i have to go back and see him.
apart from that, i worked on my car, changed the spark plugs and leads, and put new headlight bulbs in (and they are incredibly bright! and legal :) ) also picked up my new guitar!!! ^_^ im so happy, but i think i might get new strings on it as the ones on it are kindof old (6months) and even in tune they dont sound right... so yeah ive had a pretty full day..

I'm surprised that the guitar shop wouldn't have offered you new strings, Rob - did they do a setup for you? In any case, congrats on finally being able to get it :D

a setup would have cost more.. and i didnt play it until i got home as the case was all taped up... but yeah ill get some new strings tomorrowand a tuner pedal (one that mutes when you press it so you can tune between songs) very handy with gibson and epiphone guitars (notorious for going out of tune fairly quickly)

I had the same thing with my Telecaster when I bought it - a setup would have been very beneficial for it, but they did give me a free service certificate that I used a month or 2 ago. And pedals with built in tuners are good - however my amp has a tuner built in so a pedal would be rendered redundant :D So will the poor Strat see less playing time now? ;)

jacqs arent you happy that your hubby has time off. your comments make it sound like a bad thing. i work 3 soon to start my 4th job so i look forward to every moment i can get with my hubby.

well, didnt really mean it to sound that way, but now that you mention it..... I really like it when he takes a flexi day and we dont have the kids and can spend the day together shopping or whatever, but usually when he has the whole week off, he has planned 'jobs' that he wants to get done -at the moment he's renovating (ie practically repacing half of the framework!) an old caravan that we're going to use as the 'study' so then our kids can each have their own room (and hopefully take a little more responsibility for keeping them clean ;) ) anyway, when he has these jobs planned, he 'forgets' that the kids & I have a routine to our days..school, kinder - pickup kinder, lunch, shop, pickup scholl, netball, swimming...blah, blah, blah...and expects us to fit our routine (some of which are obviously not changeable!) around what he wants to do!! :sigh: THERE, GOT IT OF MY CHEST, WITHOUT UPSETTING HIM!!! THANKS!!

So, he's back at work this week, and we can go about our usual routine...speaking of which, I think that's my load of washing calling me.....
