Usually the first. I do call the places and check on my application though.

I would just start calling them and bugging them. That's what I've done most of the time in the past when I was looking for jobs. This time I just got lucky because the place I wanted to work at the most called me back before I started calling people. (I hate calling people.)

The thing is, in SC the economy is on a pathetic level. You really just have to get lucky, the amount of work you put in means nothing. You can call them all day and they'll lie to you rather than tell you straight and let you get on with your day. That is what made me mad enough to move and made me realize that people didn't care about hiring or finding good workers.
