  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I just finished A Stolen Life, by Ron Wiebe, about Yvonne Johnson, a native american woman in prison for a murder. All the white folks involved in the murder were given very light sentences, but Yvonne got 25 to life. It's about her life leading up to the murder and her life after the murder. Very disturbing, because she had such a disturbed life. I found myself sick and crying within the first 100 pages and had a hard time going on from there. If you enjoyed the movie Monster, you will probably like this book, too, because it has the same kind of stuff.

Finished The Deadhouse by Linda Fairstien last night and started to re-read Harry Potter and the Order of the Pheonix by J.K. Rowling today. The deadhouse was actually pretty good. College professor gets murdered and this huge invesitgation gets carried out around her and her fellow co-workers and a project they were working on at a former penitentary and hospital.

The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis

They're so good. I had to read them for one of my courses in university and found them very inspiring. They have influenced the way I think quite a bit. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did!
