I am reading The Helper by Catherine Marshall, it is all about the Holy Spirit and how we need His power. It is encouraging and gives us great examples on how the Holy Spirit works in people's lives.

This sounds interesting. A couple of years ago I found a copy of A Knight in Armour by Alfred Duggan, which was one of my husband's set books at school. I decided to read it, enjoyed it and since then have been looking out for more fiction based on the time of the First Crusades, which is what that book was based on.

Also reading The Jewish War by Josephus.

An Open Letter to Open Minded progressives.
I've been interested in Neo reactionary thought lately and Moldbug's ideas are interesting to consider. Especially on the Cathedral and his rejection of the Whig theory of history.

Also going to try and read through all of the City of God by Saint Augustine. There's a lot gems there I can actually appreciate now.

For the second time this year, For the Life of the World: Theology that makes a difference by Miroslav Volf and Matthew Croasman.

It makes the argument that current academic theology is practically useless and offers a framework for a theology that promotes flourishing life, presumably as God intends and in which God abides.

No, not yet.......it caught my eye because of his profound quotes, that have literally stopped me in my tracks at times. His delving into the depths of prayer is humbling and sobering for me.

2010: Odyssey Two by Arthur C. Clarke. It is a sequel to 2001: A Space Odyssey (More of the movie than the book). In the book 2001 the destination of the spacecraft Discovery is Saturn's moon Iapetus where in the film it was the Jupiter system.

In the book there is an interesting subplot of a Chinese spacecraft, Tientsin, landing on the Jovian moon Europa and meeting with disaster.

Overall, I enjoyed 2010 as a novel better than 2001 and I find it better than the film

Slowly reading The Lord of the Rings and Ben Hur, amongst others. It's hard to take in all the action, there's so much of it in both books.

Mine were of Trouble: a Nationalist account of the Spanish civil war by Peter Kemp.

I've wanted to read more about the Spanish civil war for a while now and Peter Kemp's personal account of his participation in the Nationalist side seemed like a good place to start. It's interesting reading about the motivations for someone like Kemp joining the Nationalist side when apparently most of the international Brigades that participated were part of the Republican Militias, organized by Communist groups in various countries.

I'm deeply sympathetic to the Nationalists and their struggle against Communists but this doesn't mean they were without fault. Kemp mentions one Spanish officer who told him how when the war started this officer shot six labourers on the mere suspicion that they were reds. This officer had interesting views, like being able to accuse average workers of being Communist and shooting them without trial. I can sort of understand why some of the lower classes were taken in by the Communist cause.

Yet the Republicans on the whole were hostile to Christianity. They were known for killing priests, nuns and monks they came across and were zealous in their efforts to secularize Spain and destroy the traditional power of the Church. While the Nationalists were helped by Fascist Italy and Nazi Germany it would be a mistake to consider them along those lines exactly. Those who fought for the nationalists, at least from what I've read thus far appeared to be more concerned with a traditional Spanish life. They were fighting for their faith and against Communism. The Republicans were supported by Stalin.

I read the Game of Thrones series a while back & learned it was inspired by the War of the Roses, so I got a book from the library called Stormbird. It's part of a historical fiction series based on the War of the Roses. Starting it tonight

I also want to get a Christian book on dating, as well as books on Mormonism & Jehovas Witness, & a book on the apocrypha Bible books

If you are interested in a one volume history of the War of the Roses I recommend The War of The Roses: The Fall of the Plantagenets and the Rise of the Tudors by Dan Jones
