David Copperfield brought tears to my eyes, especially because of the treatment David had at the hands of his stepfather.
Several years ago, pre-Harry Potter, the story was shown in a 2-part series on tv here in the UK, with Daniel Radcliffe and Maggie Smith both starring. Daniel played David Copperfield as a boy and Maggie Smith was Betsy Trotwood - both brilliant performances.

My girlfriend and I both saw the movie and she said the book was better in every way. She let me borrow it and so far I have to concur. The film cut all of the Christianity and depth out of the real story.
