  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Well apparently I seem to be the only one using the community hangout lol but anyways,.. since I started talking about Halloween on here last night and we're one month away from it,.. I know that we're all scared of something so what is everybody afraid of? My biggest thing that I'm afraid of is clowns. And no it's not due to the IT movie lol as for some strange reason I still love it, (probably because I love being scared) but I've been afraid of clowns ever since I was a little kid. I also can't stand rats or snakes, but for some strange reason I'm alright with mice.

It used to be muggers and strong armed bandits until I moved to a low crime neighborhood.

I have no strong fears, but clowns and mimes are the creepiest.

I also remember when I was a kid I had this little bottle of shampoo that was shaped like a clown or something and it used to sit on my bedroom shelf and I guess that when I used to look it at it in the dark it scared me,.. so that's where my fear probably came from. I didn't mind them at the circus but I wanted to be as far away from them as possible. Oh and I was ironically a clown for Halloween one year,.. and probably because I thought that they were scary lol

I'm very average: I am uncomfortable around big black spiders and I don't like walking into a pitch-dark basement. Nothing special :/

Yeah, back when I lived back in my old house we had a basement and it always scared me going down there at night. I have a little bit of a fear of the dark,.. but the other things I mentioned overrides that.

Wow, you must have lived in quite the neighborhood before. 0__0
I lived in the Waterfront neighborhood of SW DC about a mile from Capitol Hill. There was gunfire some nights. Sometimes someone pulled the fire alarm in the high rise in the middle of the night. A gang of three youths murdered a retired neighbor who was walking on the sidewalk during a botched robbery attempt. He refused to the give them money. He died of his wounds days later. One day I found screws in three of my tires. There were screws in the tires of other cars too. Another day a gang of youths robbed me as I was walking to get a Sunday paper at Safeway. I gave them all the money in my wallet, but kept my wallet. I forgave them and did not call the police. I stopped walking to the store. After four years there I moved.

Well I would have moved long before four years just saying. Especially after being robbed. It's a good thing that you forgave them but you still should have called the police.

Jesus said, “Judge not lest you be judged.”

In his Sermon on the Mount Jesus said, “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.”

The robbers were juveniles. I did not like being robbed, but was glad there was no violence. They took the money and ran away. I could not afford to keep them in prison cells for a long time.

I remembered I had a friend who owned a house with a basement apartment and separate entrance in Alexandria, VA. She worked for the Federal government. I rented from her awhile. She wanted to raise the rent. I bought a condo and moved out.

I was going to write "Nothing, in truth." Meaning, I only fall victim to fear when I am in the midst of lies, in the form of delusion...when I'm in the dark and cannot see sharply.

But then, your quote above got me thinking that a real fear of mine is being in a state without fear, because it is an unknown. I think I may have become kind of addicted to fear, in some way.

You actually have a good point. Having fear is actually a good thing because it protects us from danger.

What would you say is the differences between fright, fear, anxiety and worry?

I might be scared of the big angry dog attacking me in that moment, but I am not scared of that right now. Because what I am really afraid of is the potential pain, death, or both that could come my way. So I think ultimately, all fear come down to fear of pain and death. And since Jesus came to save us so that we can have everlasting life, we no longer have to fear death either. But as long as we are in the flesh, our old instincts will surface now and then and will lead us to act out of self preservation. And, of course, we still have the possibility of pain. So I would say my biggest fear is potential significant pain in all in all its forms (physically, emotionally).

I would disagree with you just slightly here. I think there is subtle difference between fear and wisdom. Wisdom is by nature not rash or reckless, but wisdom is also bold and does not let fear dictate our choices. The Bible never describes fear positively, except in the sense of the Fear of the Lord, which is something completely different. What we need is not fear, but wisdom. Because life will always bring us before choices, sometimes choices that will take us towards what we fear, sometimes away from it. And at that point emotions will always lead us astray. But wisdom will keep us on the right track, regardless of the circumstances. For example, there are times when we have to choose to stand up for the truth even if the result of that choice is something fear would warn us against. Other times it is just wiser to let things go and wait for a better opportunity, just because their are better ways of doing the same thing.

Just my thoughts
