Going back a few posts, where several other forum users claimed that I reject ToE because I don't like it. It is poor logic to claim that because I don't like something then it is not true. Let us reverse the order. Because the ToE is not true is why I don't like it. It goes against what the Bible has taught me, and bottom line is the Bible is MY ultimate authority.

I don't like the idea of hell and Satan, but that doesn't mean they are not real. They are very real with the latter active in the hearts and minds of men.

And when I posted about God making a sign claiming His existence with His signature, the bottom line is He did that, through His son Jesus Christ. He left signs before He was born so people would know. He lived amongst us, but because He was not born in our time many choose not to believe. God's done His part in displaying to man His existence.

God bless.

But you have decided it is not true in ignorance of the evidence.

If the bible is your ultimate authority, then why bother getting worried about science, leave it to the scientists to make your life better, develope new drugs and theraputic techniques etc.

The Theory of Evolution doesn't need you to understand or accept it to work, it works just fine without your support. 99.86% of biological scientists accept evolution, they are the important ones.

Whether you accept it or deny it doesn't matter a jot. I certainly doesn't undermine its truth.

I don't like the idea of hell and Satan, but that doesn't mean they are not real. They are very real with the latter active in the hearts and minds of men.

They are stories to scare the gullable into Christianity as far as I can see. Why would anyone worship a god that sends anyone who doesn't worship him to eternal torture?

And when I posted about God making a sign claiming His existence with His signature, the bottom line is He did that, through His son Jesus Christ.

If you believe he existed.

He left signs before He was born so people would know. He lived amongst us, but because He was not born in our time many choose not to believe. God's done His part in displaying to man His existence.

If he does exist he left signs in nature as well, and they say that evolution is true and the earth is 4.6 billion years old.

It would seem to me that nature would be a more accurate guide to what he did than a book written by men and full of translation errors.

A book that no two Christians can agree on.

But why? Why would some piece of paper be anyone's ultimate authority? We've asked AV repeatedly for justification of the Bible's infallibility, and all he's come up with is dodgy maths. Can you do any better?

And when I posted about God making a sign claiming His existence with His signature, the bottom line is He did that, through His son Jesus Christ.

But you have barely enough evidence to conclude Jesus even existed, never mind that he was the son of God. If you can provide satisfactory evidence that Jesus existed and was the son of God, then sure, you've got evidence for God, too.

God's done His part in displaying to man His existence.

Really? You'd think if Jesus was God's signature, he wouldn't have written it on such cheap quality paper. When all we have to go on is four biographies (conflicting on some key details) and a few letters (which were written first, contain less of the mythos, and could have been inspired by nothing more than a hallucination) God hasn't really tried very hard.

Yes. Exceedingly poor.
Let us reverse the order. Because the ToE is not true is why I don't like it.
That would be great, if that were how it worked. But it's not. You just plain don't like it. Whether or not it's actually true has no bearing on your acceptance or rejection of it.
It goes against what the Bible has taught me, and bottom line is the Bible is MY ultimate authority.
Again, if the Bible told you grass is always orange, what would you conclude? That green is orange? That your eyes are playing tricks on you? Or that maybe, just maybe, the Bible can be factually wrong sometimes when read literally?
I don't like the idea of hell and Satan, but that doesn't mean they are not real.
Oh, no, this is where you're wrong. You love the idea of hell and Satan. You don't like the idea of going there and meeting him, but you love that they exist. It validates your theology.
They are very real with the latter active in the hearts and minds of men.
And you love believing that.
And when I posted about God making a sign claiming His existence with His signature, the bottom line is He did that, through His son Jesus Christ. He left signs before He was born so people would know. He lived amongst us, but because He was not born in our time many choose not to believe. God's done His part in displaying to man His existence.
We're not talking about God's existence here. Please stay on topic.

That is the problem with creationists. Because you hold the bible to be the ultimate authority, any other source of truth that contradicts it (e.g. science) is wrong a priori. It's not that we don't have the evidence to prove evolution, because for you the evidence doesn't matter.

That doesn't mean that your beliefs are consistent. The bible also implies that the sun revolves around the earth (1 Chronicles 16:30, Psalm 96:10, Psalm 104:5, Ecclesiastes 1:5) and that pi is equal to 3.0 (1 Kings 7:23, 2 Chronicles 4:2), but I don't see you arguing that geocentricism is right or that mathematics is wrong.

So go ahead and stick your head in the sand and ignore the outside world for the sake of faith if you want to, just don't try to convince us that doing so makes any sense.

Exactly right.

I've been watching this happen for years. It's the same situation nearly every single time.

I said Christians burned witches

You said they didn't

I proved they did

End of story.
You proved nothing of the kind. Christians did not burn witches.
You can bluster all you want, I don't even know why you'd want to deny it as the bible commands it.
Because I am not ignorant (as you so obviously are) of Bible teaching on the old and new covenants.
I think you have got so used to nay-saying anything rational that it a kind of trait you find impossible to over-ride now.
LOL. If this were true it wouldn't apply in this case because you haven't said anything rational.
So enlighten us then, why didn't Christians burn witches when all the evidence shows they did?
To burn a witch would be an unchristian act. Simple really isn't it?
You could try the "no true Scotsman" ( a Scotsman is a person who comes from Scotland ) fallacy,.....
I would think that there would be quite a few [true?] ''scotsmen'' [besides this englishman] who would consider that an extremely inadequate definition but I suppose that as long as you believe it suits your purpose you'll stick with it.....
..... but we have preempted this.
[We? Do you have multiple personalities?] You obviously thought you had..... Think again.
You could ignore all the posts that ask you to substantiate your claims, or you can just bluster. At the moment I see you are going for option 3:D
It would appear that you are wrong.

FoeHammer.

He's referring to the "No true Scotsman" logical fallacy.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No_true_scotsman

Saying "Christians did not burn witches because burning a witch is an unchristian act" is fallacious. Not burning witches is not part of the definition of a Christian.

FoeHammer.

I was indeed wrong, you have plumped for the "No True Scotsman" fallacy.

Originally the favorite but odds lengthened after its initial discussion.

Do you think that the people who burned witched considered themselves Christian?

If so, how do you know that you are a TrueChristian and that they were not.

Perhaps they got it right, after all the bible says you shouldn't suffer a witch to live.

You could be the one off to hell for not killing witches as god commanded.;)

FoeHammer, it was christains who burned down Alexandria's library and it was Christains who dragged Hypatia from her home into a church, ripped off her clothing, and shredded the skin from her body with sea shells. Her books (in her house) were then burned

This was done on orders from Cyril who then became a saint for his actions. he is still considered a saint to this day. how lovely

Had key copies of books she had transcribed before the falling of Alexandria's library not survived, WE would still be in the dark ages. one of the books contained the fundamental knowledge of mathematics. its Christians who tried to destroy these works.

these works were Euclid the Elements, Ptolemy’s Almagest, and Diophantus’ Arithmetica. Low and behold their rediscovery is what caused the renaissance, and well we all know the rest.

I feel that I should elaborate. The act of sinning itself is unchristian. It's unchristian to burn witches, but it's also unchristian to lie, commit adultery, work on the Sabbath, etc..

We all sin, but some of us are Christians; sin itself doesn't make you a non-christian.

So yes, unfortunate as it may be, Christians burned witches. Being Christian does not make you incapable of sinning.

but thats not exactly true elcapitan. their are many evil things in the bible that are very Christian. you know, kill the gays, kill the adultery, kill the non beliaver, don't eat pork.

if you say this is OT and not NT, well this is what the NT says about the OT.

For truly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass the law until all is accomplished. Whoever then relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but he who does them and teaches them shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 5:18-19 RSV)

"It is easier for Heaven and Earth to pass away than for the smallest part of the letter of the law to become invalid." (Luke 16:17 NAB)

"Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets. I have come not to abolish but to fulfill. Amen, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest part or the smallest part of a letter will pass from the law, until all things have taken place." (Matthew 5:17 NAB)

"All scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for refutation, for correction, and for training in righteousness..." (2 Timothy 3:16 NAB)

"Know this first of all, that there is no prophecy of scripture that is a matter of personal interpretation, for no prophecy ever came through human will; but rather human beings moved by the holy Spirit spoke under the influence of God." (2 Peter 20-21 NAB)

“Did not Moses give you the law, and yet none of you keepeth the law" (John7:19) and “For the law was given by Moses,..." (John 1:17).

“...the scripture cannot be broken.” --Jesus Christ, John 10:35

Yeah...but I'm not a bible literalist. I don't think that the bible is infallible.

Anyways, I think you misunderstood what I was saying in the context of the discussion. My point was that Christians do evil things and that doing evil things doesn't automatically make you a non-christian.
