I think that you misunderstood the point of my last post. I don't see how discussing a thousand year reign that is not mentioned in the Bible is profitable for our discussion in how one might become a Christian.

It is very important to read the context that is surrounded with the verse that you've quoted. If you just rip anything out of the Bible you can prove almost anything you want. So we have to be careful to harmonize and use context when we are trying to decide what a verse means. Let's look at the context here:

John 6:28-29 ASV

They said therefore unto him, What must we do, that we may work the works of God? (29) Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.

In answer to their question, "What must we do to work the works of God?" Jesus tells the Jews that they must believe, for this is the workd of God. Does this mean that God makes them believe? No, but rather it is something that God wants them to do. It is a work, a godly work, that must be done before we can have salvation. It is also important to remember, that inclusive in believe is obedience. We must trust and obey, for there is no other way.

This isn't really what happens at all. The Jews are asking Christ what they must do to work the works of God. His answer is that the work of God would be for them to believe on Christ. So, for them to work the works of God, they have to believe. It's a work that they (us too) have to do .

We see here in the very beginning of the verses that you have quoted (v.5) God tells Moses to speak unto the Israelites that IF (it's a very big if) they obey His voice and keep His covenant, that then all of the other things would be secured unto them.

These are things that they had to do, just like believing is something that we have to do. The relationship that people have had with God throughout the entire Bible has never been a one-sided relationship.

And just like the Israelites had to do certain things to be in a right relationship with God, so do we. Water baptism is one of those things that we must do (Mark 16:16, Acts 22:16, Acts 2:38).

This post is not intended as a personal attack, but I want you to see and understand why we are not seeing eye to eye.

I don't think that they didn't believe here - they did. The problem is that you are a Calvinist and hold to doctrines that are simply not taught in the Scriptures. This passage blatently shows that the Israelites had chosen to follow God and do what He said. This doesn't mean that they can't change their minds later.

I think that until we can get you to look beyond the Calvinist lens that you are using to bring the Bible into focus with, we will never make any progress. Instead of trying to fit what the Bible says to Make Calvin right, why don't we just let the Bible speak for itsself and let God be right?

He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that disbelieveth shall be condemned.

I would just like to see how you attempt to do this, so that I might better understand where to start discussing this topic with you .
