I think personally there are 2 questions to ask. Who is God? What do you do to be saved? I believe in the triune God, and to be saved to confess your a sinner and beleive Jesus died for your sins. Nothing else. Thats bare minimum...
What I want to know is your faith and your bare minimums.

"If you confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord'. and you believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, You will be saved."
Romans 10:9

The bare minimum that it takes to be saved is stated right there. Say outloud, shout it from the mountain top that Jesus is Your Lord, and believe in your heart that he was raised from the dead, and you shall be saved!!

That's not to say that good works and living a life striving to share the word of God and be the best that you can be, knowing right from wrong is not needed, that should be a way that we all lead our lives.

What if you're mentally handicaped and have half a brain ?
What if you die in your mothers womb ?

otherwise salvation may suffer from reduced frame rates.

Acts 17:30
Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent.

In answer to the OP:

Romans 10:9
that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

Good question about being unborn or disabled... But I wasn't getting at heathan or infant salvation.
Metanoia02 do you have to ask for grace to be saved? Otherwise we are all saved?

Grace is God's unmerited favor. Faith, Hope and Love are our proper resposes to His grace.

Here are the minimum requirements :

Quote - Then one of the criminals who were hanged blasphemed Him, saying, "If You are the Christ, save Yourself and us." But the other, answering, rebuked him, saying, "Do you not even fear God, seeing you are under the same condemnation? And we indeed justly, for we receive the due reward of our deeds; but this Man has done nothing wrong." Then he said to Jesus, "Lord, remember me when You come into Your kingdom." And Jesus said to him, "Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise."

Yeah, interesting that before the "Roman road", all you had to say was "remember me Lord." Which is a nice prayer BTW.

Somehow me thinks there was a lot more going on here with this man than a public confession or saying a particular phrase and Jesus could see what was going on in his heart. So it becomes an acknowledgement that a Grace would be given here after death because of what Jesus saw in his heart.

Also think that about to die, whatever it is we cannot see going on in the thiefs heart, he did not live long enough to mess that relationship up. He got right with God, right before he died. BTW something the thief had to DO in order to be "saved" AFTER death. A choice one made and the other thief did not.

Greetings,

Some interesting comments.

The thief on the cross actually did a few things:

He made confession of Jesus Christ to his neighboring thief and in fact rebuked him for his words.

In acknowledging his own unworthiness and justification for his punishment, he repented.

And lastly he sought God's mercy in asking Jesus to remember him.

The very minimum requirements for entering into eternity with God is to be written in the "Lamb's Book of Life", and NOT being erased from it. We are told that "the soul that sinneth, it shall die." We know from many scriptures that the Lamb's Book of Life was written from the foundation of the World. I see the Book of Life as analgious to the High Priest's "breastplate", upon which were several stones each representing a tribe of Israel. This can be likened to the "heart of Jesus". Whenever the High Priest entered into the Holy of Holies, the breastplate was a reminder to pray for each of the 12 tribes that their sins be forgiven and they be restored to righteousness with God. Jesus has had yours and my name written on His heart right from the very beginning and has always been before the face of God. This would include every life that would be created and even those who are mentally incapable to receive the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We are told:

Romans 2:14 For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves:

Romans 7:8 But sin, taking occasion by the commandment, wrought in me all manner of concupiscence. For without the law sin was dead.

Without knowing and understanding the "law" there is no transgression.

I have a 4 year old granddaughter who is most precious to me. Though she often gets into trouble and I must correct her. I know that these involved absolutely no sin on her part. I readily forgive and forget every instance of her wrong doing because I know her memory is short and she is exploring her new world and testing the waters so to speak under various circumstances. I do not hold her in contempt. So children and the mentally infirm are also not held in contempt by God, but in fact are are prayed for all the time by Jesus Himself.

Blessings,

Dad Ernie

By saying this do you mean that if someone does know the law then he isn't responsible for his sin?

I do believe in infant salvation because they don't know whats wrong or right. But for an adult I don't believe that's the case. Because if it was then it would be greater not to tell any one about Jesus so they surely would go to heaven.
