The World vs God
John 15:18-19 If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you. If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.
- The world hates you if you are not of the world.
1 John 2:15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
- Love not the world, because if you love the world the love of the father is not in you.
1 John 3:1 Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.
- The world doesn't know us because it doesn't know God.
Matthew 6:24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
- You can't serve two masters (the world and God), because you will hate one and love the other, or hold onto one and despise the other.
Galatians 1:3-5 Grace be to you and peace from God the Father, and from our Lord Jesus Christ, who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father: to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
- The world is evil, and sinful.
The World in the Church
Revelation 18:1-5 And after these things I saw another angel come down from heaven, having great power; and the earth was lightened with his glory. And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird. For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies. And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues. For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities.
- Babylon is a woman (church) sitting on a scarlet beast (kingdom), a harlot that is guilty of fornication (false worship, idolatry).
- Come out of her my people, so that you do not partake of her sins and receive her plagues.
2 Thessalonians 2:3-4 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away [apostasy; defection from the truth] first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.
- Apostasy in the church; defection from the truth.
Conclusion
- It does not know God, and does not know us.
- It will cause you to hate or despise God, because you can't serve two masters.
- It is found anywhere there is sin and evil. Sin is defined as transgression of the law of God (1 John 3:4), the wages of which is death (Romans 6:23).
- The world is found in a church that is guilty of fornication, and of apostasy, and we are called out of it.
TL;DR—Both.
