Not necessarily my top five but the five that came to mind just now.
A Tale of Two Cities
A Confederacy of Dunces
Odd Thomas
Of Mice and Men
and of course
The Bible (King James version my favorite for the beauty of the language not necessarily from the perfection of translation but all translations that are non paraphrased are fine IMO)

Tuesdays With Morrie by Mitch Albom
The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings Trilogy - J.R.R. Tolkien

Yikes & Um. Leaving aside the Bible or books within that Book per se:

1) Idols for Destruction by Herbert Schlossberg
2) Crucifixion by Martin Hengel
3) Exegetical Fallacies by D.A. Carson
4) The First Epistle to the Corinthians by Anthony Thiselton (a commentary on 1 Cor.)
5) Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien

My top favorites tend to shift based on new things that I read.
But some of my favorites would be as follows:

1984 by George Orwell
Crime and Punishment by Dostoevsky
The Resurrection of the Son of God by N.T. Wright
The Great Divorce by C.S. Lewis
Paradise Lost by Milton (It has a great summary of the Bible.)

I really enjoyed reading 1984. Each time I re-read it, it gets a little scarier. I also like Brave New World

One summer I read 1984, Brave New World, and We (by Yevgeny Zamyatin). All three were good, but 1984 was the most chilling, especially the very last part.

Only five.. oh,boy. This I cannot do. I cannot choose. There are just so many wondrous ones :D

I will try to choose.

In order from best to worst (though none are bad in the slightest):

1) In Farleigh Field: A novel of World War II by Janet Quinn-Harkin

2) The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

3) Unlock Your Dream by Philip Wagner

4) Life After Heaven by Steven Musick

5) The Inexplicable Logic of My Life by Benjamin Alire Sáenz

Many different genres :p Enjoy beauties :)

Thank you for the welcome :D I read so many books it is ridiculous. Someone please tell me if this is against site rules so I can take it down. I am not sure if it is. But I review books for a few major publishing companies and get free copies in the mail. My blog was accidentally deleted a few weeks ago, so the new one is a bit empty. However, if you would like to read my reviews to make the world's most difficult choice ( deciding which book to read) you can view it here.

I don't think your post violates forum rules or site rules :D:D:D

I absolutely LOVED reading books....but then I got addicted to the Internet and to my smartphone.

It's a little difficult for me to read books now because I don't have the attention span or concentration/focus anymore
