If you don't like violence and strong themes stay far far away from eva. It is a very good anime but it has lots of violence.

About the christian themes in it, when I was reading about it trying to figure out what exactly happened in the series, (it is REALLY confusing), I found what the director said about it. What it is apperntly is in Japan not a lot of people are christians, so they don't know a lot about the religon. So they added all the christian themes to make it a bit more mytserious for the Japanese viewer. They said it wasn't to offend anyone and if it they knew it was gonna be released in the US they prolly would have rethought it.

And lots of horribly bad stuff as well ("Voltage Fighters: Gowcaizer" comes to mind). ;)
Oh, UGGGGH! *shudder* I'm gonna have nightmares now...
As for Spirited Away... I personally loved it, but I would NOT recommend it for someone with strong convictions. Come to think of it, I'd probably recommend avoiding all anime to take care of that particular temptation altogether...

I don't have an issue with it. The first few books of the Bible are for more intense if someone wanted to draw it with any kind of accuracy.
I can see that; but the decision of what one chooses to watch/read is a personal one.

The Online Parents' Guide to Anime is a good resource for finding out about the content. They have a rating system and reviews.

In all honesty I have nothing against violent animes as long as they don't change the person who's watching them. People need to realize that anime is just a form of a TV show and that they shouldn't base their life on it. For instance, I love Inuyasha, but there's no way I'm gonna believe that a well can send me back in time 500 years! o_o I like Rurouni Kenshin... but it doesn't mean that I'm gonna start waving objects at people. Same goes for YuYu Hakusho... I don't believe in what's represented; what happens after a person dies. *shrug* Just a good source of entertainment.
Be strong and don't let the anime rip you away from the Lord and all of your life... I do know some people that have done that...

there are particular animes I watch that dont hit the point where they are not apprpriate.
1. Cased Closed
2. G Gundam

I don't know about Case Closed, but I think G Gundam has some points that could be considered "innappropriate." Nothing real bad, but there is some swearing and nudity.

On both, he's probably referring to the CN edits. :p Both, in their original form, have things that would be considered inappropriate. :)

about that I only watch forms of any show with edited or very veery breif moments that it would considered innapropriate. I only watch them if I no they have been edited for innapropriate content. :sorry: Maybe I should of clarified.

Also, I'd like to add that some people's convictions of what they feel they are allowed to view are different. I'm 20 years old, fairly liberal, and do not feel called to strict prohibitions on what I can and can't watch. I loved Cowboy Bebop, Trigun happens to be one of my favorite animes (and hey, Wolfwood is one of my favorite characters. :p ), and I am wanting to watch Gravitation, which is total shounen ai/yaoi.

Now, for someone else, all of these animes may be totally verboten. Nevertheless, I do not believe watching them is sin. Nor do I believe that to justify my liking them, I must force them into being Christian allegories or having deep spiritual meaning. :)

The point of this post is that I don't like the idea of this thread and actually see it as insulting. In my honest opinion, there is no anime (except for hentai porn and Angel Sanctuary) that is a strict no-no for ALL Christians, just like there's no American TV show that is a strict no-no for all Christians. What anime to watch, if any, is a matter of one's own individual convictions, age, maturity, and beliefs, not a matter of "these are good, these are bad."

Also, for everyone's benefit, I'm posting up a few examples of animes that are troublesome to various convictions. I haven't seen all of these, but I know about all of them. ^^

If you are severely convicted against viewing violence:

I don't recommend:
Watching any anime at all. :p Seriously, if your convictions against watching violence preclude seeing any violence at all or if you're under 13, I'd recommend your abandoning anime entirely. :)

If you are severely convicted against hearing bad language (NOTE: this is not the same conviction as not using it, necessarily: I don't personally use it, yet I have no problem with hearing others use it, because others aren't me):

I don't recommend:

Hellsing, especially in the dub
Chobits
Cowboy Bebop
Trigun
FAKE
Gravitation
Neon Genesis Evangelion
Unedited Gundam Wing
Unedited Yu Yu Hakusho
Season 2 Big O

I *do* recommend:
.hack//sign (The first DVD sub only had *one* use of a mild curse in five episodes. Definitely better than many.)
Big O Season One (Once or twice in all 13 episodes, again mild.)
Pretty much anything Toonami-edited, as all language usually is removed, even to the point of absurdity)

If you are strongly convicted against portrayals of homosexual characters (i.e. shounen ai, yaoi, shoujo ai, yuri):

I don't recommend:

Unedited Sailor Moon
Gundam Wing
Revolutionary Girl Utena
Gravitation
FAKE
Azumanga Daioh
Earthian
Yami No Matsuei
Bronze
Berserk
Trigun manga (i.e. where the anime hints KxL and WxV, the manga relatively screams it)
The 8th, 12th, and 13th episodes of Cowboy Bebop (Waltz For Venus and Jupiter Jazz pt. 1 and pt. 2)
Hellsing
.hack//sign, for very slight shoujo ai hints
Cardcaptor Sakura

I *do* recommend:

Toonami edits (LOL, again, any trace of yaoi or yuri gets edited. ><)

I disagree. Gundam Wing does not really "portray" homosexual characters. Fans came up with that stuff on their own with very little evidence from the series.

I have never bought an anime, I personally beleive that certain animes are Ok, but I will not spend my money on them I traditionally borrow them from friends and I make sure thats edited or appropriate before I borrow them. Altough, on some occations I do watch some animes with some sort of "graphic" scene in it, but I keep to my beliefs in god and do not allow the anime, manga or any other material to change my morals or beliefs.
