My pastor seems to think that I have not yet accepted Jesus. I don't know what is making her think that way. Am I doing something wrong?
Today, she had a word with me. She told me to think about it seriously and that I need to be saved. She told people to pray for me and everything. But I already have accepted Jesus, otherwise I wouldn't even bother going to church in the first place. I don't know what is doubting her about my belief in God. Im confused.

Thanks for praying for me. The thing is, after she has spoken to me, I don't know myself whether i am actually saved. Is God trying to tell me something and using her to pass the message onto me? I mean, I AM a christian. But am I just not christian enough? I do believe in God, but did she see something in me that is doubting her about me. Am I doing something that is not right? I am quite a reserved person and I don't always express my love of jesus in church. I normally remain quiet and pray to myself whilst everybody else is stood up singing and praying out loud in tongues and everything. I feel too timid to do that.

To be saved, a person first of all needs to realise that they are a sinner.

That person needs to recognise what Jesus has done for them on their behalf and then repent of his/her ways and make a fresh start in life where by they change and become obedient to him. That means, for example, those who often lied to tell the truth, those who are thieves become honest and so on. It's a change in a person where by they no longer wish to lead a sinful life but a life now pleasing to the Lord who suffered so greatly for you.

Acts 3:19
Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out

John 3:16
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Pray to God and ask him to forgive you of your sins, pray for the Holy Spirit, that he may come and abide in you and lead you into all the truth.

Luke 11:13
If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!"

John 16:13
But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth.

Maybe it is because she doesn't know a certain time when you commited, maybe she thinks you act worldly or seems like you don't care. Maybe it is as you say, because you are reserved. It was the same for me once, but I learnt that no one cares if you praise God, raise your arms, speak in tongues or not. Be yourself.

Anyway to be saved you need to ask for forgiveness, trust Jesus death for your salvation and then try to follow Jesus. It seems you are part of a pentecostal/ charismatic church? If so have you been baptised in the Holy Spirit or in water for that matter?

Hope you dont worry too much though :D

What do you mean by acting worldly?

I do ask for forgiveness. I pray everyday to repent of my sins and ask for God's forgiveness.
I am living in a christian lifestyle. I try to follow the teachings in the bible, and if i sin, i ask to be forgiven straight away. I however, am not baptised.

Here is my church website: FCF Lincoln - Home
I think its pentacostal.

Thanks everyone
I will keep praying.

Some thoughts of mine about this...

Does she have any kind of Scriptural reason to believe that you are not saved? Is she pointing to a verse that shows some sort of contradiction between your life and what Scripture says the life of a believer should look like? Even then, it's possible for believers to go through periods of struggle where they may not care for God, but God promises that His Holy Spirit will never leave us, and that God will always bring His saints back to Him. If she doesn't, I would suggest that you read the book of 1 John. 1 John is written so that believers know and be sure that they are believers. In Scripture God says that His Holy Spirit testifies to believers and assures them of their salvation. God never meant for his loved ones to live in doubt of whether or not they are truly saved. We were meant to live in joy found in Christ, not in a lifestyle of soul-sickening self-examination. (though occasional self-examination is commanded, but God assures believers that they are believers)

If her reasoning is because you do not speak in tongues or something to that degree, I would disagree with her vehemently. I have always had a problem with churches that claim that all true believers will speak in tongues. In fact, I have never once known of a church that even spoke in tongues in a biblical manner. (that is, for the edification and building of the church body, and done in an orderly manner. [NOT in chaotic randomness, read 1 cor. 14]) I have a strong problem with churches that take verses horribly out of context then use them to tell people that if they do not worship exactly as they do then they aren't saved.

But keep in mind, I don't know you and I won't claim to. I have no idea if you are a believer or not. I will pray that if you are not, that God would reveal that to you and that would come to know Him and that if you are, that God would reveal this to you, and would save you from a life of soul-sickening constant self-examination and that you would experience the joy and security found in Christ.

By 'What do you mean by acting worldly?' I ment regularly sinning and being unrepentant. I suppose sin defining you more than Christ. But it would seem that is not the case.

Maybe it is just because you are a 'reserved' person it might be hard to tell how much you believe what you say you do. What do you think?

Mind me asking if you can pray in tongues and if you have experienced the Holy Spirit before? If you know what I mean? Just interested :p

I think the best thing you can do in this situation is to sit down with her and have a chat with her about this... She knows you and she certainly knows her own reasoning behind that statement. She'll probably also happily tell you how you're supposed to go about your salvation. I hope things will clarify between the two of you and that you'll get this issue over and done with!

Lol. Being "Saved" was an idea given to us from the Old Testament. All you have to do is live a decent life while knowing in your heart that if you died today, you would be proud of what you have done in life. Leave Jesus, Leave Muhammed, Leave any "Messiah" out of this equation since it is really close-minded to believe in the word of man (since humans can lie). Believe in something greater than yourself because you know there is something, not because somebody told you there was something.

How do you know that being saved is merely a human idea? In another post said it was very wrong of me to talk about things more important than me.

Is it closed minded to believe a guy who rose from the dead or is it closed minded to say it is always closed minded to believe God can reveal Himself through another man... who could even be God Himself?

Just throwing it out there :p

Hey by the way, and welcome to CF
