  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I myself don't like pierced ears on babies... but I guess it's al down to family culture so I wouldn't let my daughter have her ears done. But when she was 6 the school kept having head live epidemics so I wanted he to cut her hair short but she wanted it long.... so I did a deal and let her have her ears pierced and her hair cut short to show off her ear rings.... only then I got in trouble at school cos kids can't have their ears done during term time cos it takes 6 weeks before they can be removed for sports.. but when I explained the reason to the head teacher he laughed and said that was fine and he wished all the girls would do the same!

I had my daughter's ears pierced when she was 6 months old. She did fine with them but as she grew the holes become closer to the bottom of her lobes. We eventually had to take them out because of how low they had become. I think the best rule of thumb is to wait until they ask for them and are ready to have them.

The reason I want to do it early is because I'm tried of people asking if my daught is a boy or a girl. LIKE DUH~~ She's wearing all pink and has a pink head bow on. Plus I think it would be cute too, but there is always that not sure feeling. She has no hair hardly, so maybe by the earrings, people will get that she is a girl. I'm not sure what I want to do yet.

My daughter was fairly bald for the first 18 months of her life. Just because she was in a blue DRESS with LACE some one thought she was a boy. Believe me, earrings aint gonna help. My daughter is now 12 and has done quite nicely without earrings thank you, but if she wanted her ears peirced now I would probably say OK--mainly beacuse she is old enough to take care of them herself.

BTW--my son had the opposite problem. He had lots of curly blonde hair and was always mistaken for a girl! Now (at age 9) he insists on having his hair cut super short, but I miss the curls  .

I was made to wait until I was 12 before my parents allowed me to get my ears pierced (they had to endure almost 2 years of begging on my part). They wanted to be sure I really wanted to do it and that I understood that it was my responsibility to care for them. I'm using the same rule/logic on my daughters (ages 8 and 10) when the topic comes up...so far they seem pretty wishy-washy about it.
