  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I'm not married yet, but when I am both me and my husband will be 20. He will be turning 21 a month after we are married and I will be turning 21 2 months after him.

I believe there are two main reasons why Christians generally get married younger.

Firstly, there's the whole sex thing.

Secondly, being married requires a bit of maturity and understanding of the concept of putting other's before yourself. I'm not saying that Christians get this perfect, but they understand it a lot earlier than non-Christians (some people NEVER understand this), espcially if that is the environment they have grown up in. So basically, Christians mature earlier and learn the concepts to make marriage work from Christ.

You've got good points there. Yes, my husband and I we involved Christ in our lives right from the very beginning. To this day we STILL involve Christ in our marriage and in everything we do. I don't think it's fair to say that younger couples are not "mature" enough. It all has to do with your relationship with each other and with Christ. With all the challenges we have in our marriage (raising 3 children and the oldest being mentally challenged) God has definitely made our marriage stronger. Just because a couple gets married young, doesn't mean that they're not mature.

I was 20 and my husband had just turned 21. I think Christians tend to get married younger because we more frequently come from two-parent homes. Of course, there are a number of Christians who come from divorced families, but the rates of divorce are lower among Christian households. I think that, more than anything, encourages us to want to get married and create that kind of stable life we grew up with. I know both my husband and I came from unbroken homes, and our parents' marriages have had a lot of effect on our own marriage.

My husband was 19 and I had just turned 18 by 5 days (didn't 'have' to)

I think the reason my husband wanted to marry me so young was to get me out of my parents house, my dad was an alcoholic. We both knew we would eventually marry and figured 'why not'. Very mature, I know. Thankfully, 9 years (and 3 kids) later still going strong.
