I can't believe it will literally be the Roaring 20s again, in less than 36 hours from now. I still vividly remember this decade beginning when I was at Medieval Time's 2010 New Year's Eve party as a 14 years old, just old enough to work at some real, gainful, part-time jobs. Almost a decade later, I'm 24 with full adult rights and responsibilities that I've gained as the decade passed. I also remember at the middle of this decade, starting on my path to, and later being, a serious Christian from a nominal Catholic. While for most people, it seemed to have gone quickly, for me, it kind of feels this decade lingered and lasted on for ages.
I know that this very same decade will be marked and remembered for smartphones, other touchscreen gizmos, mass shootings, ISIS, hurricanes, typhoons, earthquakes, economic rollercoasters everywhere, Avengers, memes, Facebook, and Twitter, funky music like Party Rock Anthem, enchanced CGI movies, VR, trends for young people, Obama, Trump, even a scare of the end of the world in 2012, etc.
I noticed that every time the year (or decade) is about to end, like now, I read and hear from many people saying that this year (or decade) is crazy. But each year, or decade, has it's own triumphs and challenges. One thing that hasn't changed and is getting worse is society's hostility towards other Christians: ISIS killing Christians who refused to convert, the Umpqua College shooting in OR in 2015, and the shooting death of Christina Grimmie, a faithful Christian singer.
This upcoming decade of course, may be just as wild as this one, just with many differences. However, what we Christians, know what can happen next decade is the Rapture, which may go on any minute now. Today, this upcoming decade, or 100 or 5,000 years from now. While some Christians say, that End Times will show this decade, we should be prepared any time now.

It took a while to get going though. It wasn't really until the back-end of 2012 when things really started moving. But by 2015, it was booming. The 90's were okay, and the 00's were a bit boring, but the 10's I enjoyed greatly. Particularly the final third.

And now for the 20's (and my 30's)

Christians have been excitedly expecting the end times for 2000 years. As a Christian myself I have come to regard the end times expectations, particularly tribulation and rapture, as a huge mistake.

I believe it to be intellectually, emotionally and spiritually unhealthy to live your life in constant expectation of the "end times". It is far better to live your life in such a way as to make this a better world, not just today but into the far distant future.

Indeed.

Their philosophy is simply farcical. We've all got a job to do - we weren't put here to sit around in a waiting room.

That, plus everything has already happened. Past, present and future doesn't mean a thing beyond the realms of space time, so if you're waiting around for the second coming you'll be waiting forever. Time only exists really because we orbit a star. Otherwise, it means nothing.

Think I will remember this decade as a lost one in terms of the UK and one of German prominence in terms of my new country Germany. The 2008 financial crisis meant that much of the last decade was about austerity and recovery from a massive imbalance and exposure to the banks in the UK economy. The USA continues to slip though remains the leader of the free world and is now unencumbered by wars. China continues to rise and may now be the No 1 world economy. India is now on the landscape of political consciousness also. The rise of political correctness and its movement to the whole gay marriage issue has been a dark side development

I had a Smartphone Blackberry when the Blackberry 9000 came out so that was the last decade. This decade for me is about Amazon shopping online, going out to see people starring into the vortex of their smartphones, it is about the advent of cheap streaming services like Netflix and the automation of many of the boring and repetitive parts of IT working. The emergence of AI, robotics and nanotech could be transforming but we do not yet know how

The decade isn't over yet. 2021 is the first year of the next decade. That's why it has the 1 at the end. It's the first.

The decade I am talking about is the 2010s. You know, like the 90s, 80s, and 70s. From 0-9 year measures. So in less than 15 hours from now, the 20s will begin.

At the time our calendar was being formulated there was no zero in our mathematical system. As a result the first decade started not in year zero but in year one and ended with year ten. The next decade ran from 11 to 20 and so on ever since. This confuses a great many people who know neither mathematics or history. So, out of ignorance, it has become traditional to celebrate the turn of a decade a year too soon.

We are finishing our 2020th year. Just like a birthday. If you have celebrated say your 50th birthday, you are already living in your 51st incomplete year. So we have fulfilled 2020 years and tomorrow will be starting our 2021st year. Just like the 20th century was the 1900's.

@JackRT already pointed out that's incorrect. There is no year zero, so the 2021st year does not start until 2021. It's not like birthdays because we have a zero year in those.

Actually, we will have completed our 2019th year, and a decade ends when we complete the 10th year (decade), not just begin it (2011, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, and 2020). Ten, count 'em.

Hence a new century or millennium starting on a 1 year.
